The Necks – Cork/Dublin/Derry/Belfast, October 2nd/3rd/4th/5th

Australian ambient jazz trio The Necks return to Ireland for four dates next month, including a performance in Christ Church Cathedral The Necks kick off their latest European jaunt with a quartet of Irish performances, taking in Cork’s Triskel Christchurch (Thursday October 2nd), Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral (Friday 3rd), St Columb’s Hall in Derry (Saturday 4th) and The Mac in Belfast (Sunday 5th).

What will they be playing? You’ll have to be there on the night. But whatever it is, it’s bound to be beautiful, especially if last year’s album Open is anything to go by.

The Necks are one of the great cult bands of Australia.
Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms.
Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most mesmerising fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, the sixteen albums by The Necks stand up to re-listening time and time again.
The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is possibly unique in the world today.
