Oscillations

Music & Arts Festival
3rd – 13th September 2009
A festival of extraordinary audio-visual events celebrating new music, art and film.
At Black Box, QFT, The Menagerie and venues across Belfast.

Silver Apples and Damo Suzuki lead a packed festival programme

Building on the success of it’s inaugural year, Oscillations once again creates a platform for an array of leading artists from the international underground. An ambitious programme of live performances is supported by an inspiring series of films, workshops, talks, installations and exhibitions. An eclectic mix of events providing a thought-provoking, fun and enjoyable time for both the audience and performers alike.

Headlining this year’s festival are seminal electronic music pioneers Silver Apples. One of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, the band’s hypnotic beats and electronic pulses anticipated not only the abstracted psychedelia of krautrock, but have influenced everyone from Kraftwerk, Spacemen 3 and Suicide to only name a few. Live performances are rare, this show is not to be missed.
Other music highlights include Damo Suzuki, underground icon and vocalist with the legendary krautrock band Can, Yuri Landman – experimental luthier to Sonic Youth, Liars, Lightning Bolt and Enon amongst others, US improv rock-noise duo Blues Control, Manchester heavy drone psych collective Gnod and one-man surreal groove unit Man From Uranus.

We are extremely pleased to announce a partnership with QFT, presenting documentaries on electronic music pioneers
Pierre Henry and Jean-Jacques Perrey, enigmatic outsider folk recluse Jandek and inimitable music festival All Tomorrow’s Parties.

Oscillations is once again privileged to work alongside some of the many groups which make up Belfast’s vibrant art and music communities. Oscillations draws on the support of a variety of educational and arts institutions including British Council, Gem, Black Box, QFT, Digital Arts Studios, Catalyst Arts, Factotum and the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queens University.

Oscillations runs from September 3-13, 2009. The full programme is available now from www.oscillationsfestival.com
