Jack Daniel’s are launching their long running band competition The JD Set in Dublin & Cork next week and they’d like your band to be there. Tim Burgess of The Charlatans will be in attendance to fill you in on all the details. Note: Over 18s only, please.

Ireland’s longest running competition for unsigned bands, Jack Daniel’s’ The JD Set, returns this month and to celebrate its return Tim Burgess of The Charlatans is coming to meet with unsigned bands in Dublin and Cork to encourage them to register for the competition. Tim Burgess, The JD Set 2009-2010 Icon, is inviting all unsigned bands over 18 years of age in the Dublin area to join him in Whelan’s, Dublin, from 4.00-6.00pm on Thursday 15th October where he will talk about The JD Set and offer them advice based on his many successful years in the music industry. Tim will then travel to Cork to meet with unsigned bands who are over 18 years of age from Cork and the surrounding counties in The Pavilion, Cork, from 3.00-5.00pm on Friday 16th October. Whelan’s will host the Dublin Heat of The JD Set in February 2010 and The Pavilion, Cork, will host The JD Set Cork heat also in February 2010.

Unsigned bands in the Dublin area interested in registering for The JD Set and meeting with Tim Burgess are invited to turn up at Whelan’s at 4.00pm on Thursday 15th October. Unsigned bands in the Cork area interested in registering for The JD Set and meeting with Tim Burgess are invited to turn up at the Pavilion at 3.00pm on Friday 16th October. All band members must be over 18 years of age.

Now entering its ninth year, The JD Set is Ireland’s longest running unsigned band competition. From 19th October, unsigned bands are invited to register on the official website, www.thejdset.ie for the chance to be one of 20 bands who will be shortlisted in January 2010 to play in The JD Set heats in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford will run from February to April 2010. Each location will host one heat featuring four live bands. One of these acts will be selected by a panel of three judges to go through to The JD Set final in The Village, Dublin next April where they will compete with four other bands for the overall prize.

As winners of The JD Set 2010, the winning band will receive advice from JD Set Icon, Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Studio Time in Grouse Lodge Studios, inclusion of tracks on an official The JD Set 2010 CD on the cover of Hot Press and PR support. Previous winners of The JD Set include The Coronas, who won the competition in 2005, and The Chakras who were joint winners in 2006. Last year’s competition was won by Camogie Lovers (now known as We Cut Corners).

Of course we’d all prefer if people didn’t use the term ‘unsigned’ when talking about bands not in possession of a recording deal, but what can you do…

JD are hosting their birthday gig in London on 8th October – we’ll have more on that soon.
