Nite Jewel is the performing moniker of Ramona Gonzalez. She is a composer, songwriter, and multimedia artist from Los Angeles, California, where she has exhibited a number of video and sound installation pieces. A recent sound installation entitled “The Question Concerning Technology” has been transcribed to traditional notation by Human Ear Music founder, Jason Grier. She has collaborated with Julia Holter and Cole M.G.N. of Haunted Graffiti, curated an two exhibitions at the Tiny Creatures gallery, and performed the work of Michael Pisaro. She is currently a philosophy student at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles.

The Nite Jewel project is a remarkable combination of revisionist Bronx pop and hazy musical impressionism. Like her ex-pop peers, Ariel Rosenberg and Geneva Jacuzzi, she records solely on portable 8-track cassette deck, often composing her songs by layered tape edits. In Nite Jewel’s case, however, the quality of her chosen medium seems to be neither a means nor an end, but rather a device to lend an ethereal kind of efficacy to the golden age of alternative disco. As influences, she has cited dance floor greats Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam and Debbie Deb, 90’s R&B, as well as Experimental, New Age, and Shoe Gaze.

SPILLY WALKER
http://www.myspace.com/spillywalker
Spilly Walker emerged in 2007 on the Donal Dineen curated Foggy Notions compilation Small Hours Summer Mornings. The song “Let the Freak Come Out at Night” was an awesome marriage of pop-craft and electro intensity. It soon became apparent that Spilly Walker had more bangers where that came from when they took the stage at the Electric Picnic in the Foggy Notions tent and treated us to forty minutes of immense Ibiza synths and disco soul tracks with huge choruses and emotive singing. The debut album is near completion and should see the light of day late October 2009. Expect disco, soul, electro, lush beats and party anthems with the distinctive vocal stylings of Spilly and some surprise guests.

GENEVA JACUZZI

http://www.skinnywolves.com/geneva-jacuzzi.htm
Geneva Garvin (aka
Geneva Jacuzzi) is a songwriter, visual and recording artist from Los Angeles, California. In her music she has honed a blithe and cryptic wit filled with sultry puns, double entendres, and irreverent references to mysticism and the occult. From 2004 to 2007 she fronted the tongue-in-cheek goth band Bubonic Plague, an influential cult favorite in the burgeoning scene in LA’s Echo Park district.

Her music has used styles that range from darkwave, goth, lounge and tropicalia. She recreates these sounds in painstaking detail on a portable 8-track cassette recorder. Her recent recordings have zeroed in on a discarded period in electronic funk and dance music associated with groups like Morris Day and The Time, El DeBarge and Zapp & Roger. She infuses these styles with elaborate instrumentation and harmonically complex textures that are technically difficult to achieve using her recording equipment. These distilled instrumental pieces often last under 30 seconds.

She has also developed a collage-art style that she uses to package her own music and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti albums. Like her music, her album covers consist of other album covers, intricately re-worked and shuffled so as to give the impression of a sensuous time in contemporary music, while avoiding specific references or quotation

SARSPARILLA
http://www.myspace.com/sarsparillamusic
In 1997 Damien Lynch AKA Sarsparilla decided that, rather than sit around and listen to John Carpenter soundtracks recorded off the TV with a ghetto blaster, he could actually attempt to make some tunes himself. Influenced by 90’s Warp records and eighties Electro and Hip Hop, he concentrates less on software and more on outboard gear and classic drum machines. Sarsparilla has been with the Alphabet Set since its inception and releases his 2nd full length album for the collective early Autumn entitled ‘Slave to the Cat Gang’
