Some news from So Cow – upcoming live dates, 3rd album info, some 7″ singles & what they did on their summer holidays.

2010 has been an incredibly eventful year for Tuam’s So Cow. March saw the release of their sophomore LP, Meaningless Friendly, on Chicago’s Tic Tac Totally Records. Tracks received a considerable amount of airplay on US College radio, which goes some way to explaining the five or so months the group have spent across the Atlantic this year. In fact, 2010 has seen the band play near 150 shows in support of the album.

At the end of November, they will support much-revered indie rockers The Wedding Present on their three-date Irish tour, taking in shows at Dublin’s Academy, Cork’s Cyprus Avenue and Stiff Kitten in Belfast. December will see the band playing a selection of shows around the country, including stops in Galway, Tuam and Castlebar, as well as a second Dublin show. More information on these below.

The group have just returned from a seven week North American run, during which they supported Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, The Thermals and Cymbals Eat Guitars amongst others. The jaunt also included performances at the venerable Gonerfest in Memphis (playing alongside Ty Segall, Guitar Wolf and The Oblivians), the Halifax Pop Explosion in Nova Scotia and a headline slot at the Homegrown II Fest in Boston. Their third North American tour of the year, 40 shows were played in nearly as many days.

Busy on this side of the ocean too, the band have played both the Primavera Club and Primavera Sound festivals in Barcelona in the last year, the only Irish group to perform there this year, sharing a bill with Pixies and Pavement amongst others. Other stops around the EU included shows in Spain, Italy, Scandanavia and the UK.

These forthcoming Irish shows will precede the recording of a third LP, to be released in the summer of 2011. Several 7″ singles will emerge in the meantime, beginning with an EP release on Boston’s Ride The Snake Records in the first third of the coming year.
