Experimental musician Brian Conniffe is the latest subject of FRACTURED, a new documentary series on Irish underground music
The second episode of FRACTURED, a new documentary series on Irish underground music by filmmaker John Mulvaney, features Dublin-based experimental musician and composer Brian Conniffe.
Versed in drone and noise and other dark music both as serial collaborator (with groups such as Nurse With Wound and Catscars, and in tandems like JG/BC with Vircolac guitarist Jamie Grimes) and as a solo artist (with soundtrack work for experimental filmmaker Michael Higgins), Conniffe talks the inspirations and motivations behind the music he makes, which comes across as a true expression of the self – as complicated and multi-faceted as people are.
Far from the intimidating figure his music or interests in the occult might suggest, if you fall for those clichés, Conniffe is a warm and engaging subject, exuding a real passion for what he does, no pretence or bullshit attached. More people like him in the arts world, please.
