Following the release of “Plumb the Depths” last November Drunken Boat put out another album…
This time Shane has joined Brian and Dror on guitar. The band began jamming at the end of 2009 with the same open minded looseness as always but with an eye on making the songs more concise. This resulted in what could be considered a “Pop” album, in parts remaining dark and heavy but more melodic and detailed than before.
Between writing the new songs they have also played around the country with the likes of: Squarehead, At Last An Atlas, Groom, I heart the Monster Hero, Windings, Valerie Francis, Mumblin’ Deaf Ro and Crayonsmith.
As a result, recording the new album live with few interventions and “trickery” seemed the way to go. A document rather than a labour of love.
“Concrete Canyons” was recorded live with Steve Fanagan at Ball of Sound studios in Inchicore, Dublin over 2 days in August. Steve has more credits between music and film than is possible to list.
“Concrete Canyons” is the third album in what the band consider a loose trilogy that saw them change, experiment and develop their sound and explore ideas. The band continue to write and expand, expect releases to continue…
We like SMOG, Red House Painters, Sunk Kil Moon, Codeine, Dirty Three, Yo La Tengo, Palace Brothers, Cursive and Bedhead/The New Year.
