On The Record Presents: 2012 – Jennifer Evans, Daithi, The Kanyu Tree

The first in a series of ‘On The Record Presents: 2012′ gigs takes place this Wednesday in The Twisted Pepper.

Bodytonic & On The Record will be teaming up for a series of shows to be hosted at The Twisted Pepper this year highlighting Irish and international acts they think will make a mark in 2012.

Jennifer Evans & The Ripe Intent: fans of soulful noir-folk should already know all about Evans and her band, be it through some spinetingling live shows or last year’s “Salient Points EP”. She’s currently doing another batch of recording for her debut album and appeared on the first episode of the new series of Other Voices last night.

Daithi: we’re big fans of this young west coast gun round at OTR (he played the OTR Xmas party in Galway in December). A beguiling mix of trad fiddle, big loopy beats, Arthur Russell experimentation and Final Fantasy pop sensibility, Daithi’s live show has long been something to shout about. Now, you can also shout about his “Embrace EP” which is released next Monday. No stranger to the TV screen, Daithí will also be appearing on Other Voices on March 9.

The Kanyu Tree: brand new-ish Galway trio with a dab hand when it comes to smart pop tunes, sunshine riffs and sweet-as-a-nut arrangements. You can check out Jape’s remix above or wait for their debut single “Radio” which is released in April. Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest has done some production work on their forthcoming debut album.

Doors open at 8pm and admission is a tenner on the door (or you can purchase advance tickets here – no booking or ticket agency fees).
