Dublin Guitar Quartet

Philip Glass is arguably the worlds most successful living composer. His operas, symphonies, grammy and gloden globe winning film scores and groundbreaking works for his own ensemble have had a profound impact on the art music of the last 40 years. The four string quartets, originally commissioned by the Kronos Quartet, are among his most celebrated works.

In the summer of 2008 the DGQ worked with Glass personally, sharing the stage at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dundalk. In rehearsal the composer suggested that the group transcribe the remaining quartets. The DGQ have recently added two of these works to their repertoire with the inclusion of Buczak and String Quartet No.5. This is a rare opportunity to hear this composer’s most dynamic and expressive works in the beautiful setting of St. Ann’s Church, Dawson street.
