Mine was Nightmare on Elm Street 3. My friend was allowed get it out for his birthday when we were about 9. I was horrified and exhillerated at once.

The bit where he uses his veins like a puppet!!!!!

in a mates gaff. my ma would've been distraught

aliens, called me down whilst they were having an indian, knew damn well it was on tv. pretended to be all surprised when they asked me to sit in with them and watched it. couldnt take my eyes off it.
think i was 8.

In the theatre, I'd have no clue. I was obsessed with horror movies when I was younger and I would have my older brother rent (looking back) horribly inappropriate films. Plus we had HBO growing up so I would sneak downstairs after everyone was sleeping and watch things like Friday the 13th, Children of the Corn or I Spit on Your Grave when I was like seven. I did carded for American Pie when it came out, I was 24.

was either Alien or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Both in the cinema.
Also remember when Journey's, Don't Stop Believing, first charted.

i used to hang out with this guy whose older brother taped EVERYTHING, even had two VCRs back in 89 so he could do tape-to-tape, there was this shop nearby that was packed with nasties, porno, and cheap action movies, i remember watching terminator, kickboxer, predator, chainsaw massacre, conan, commando, and a bunch of nameless crap at the age of 7, then going upstairs and playing with his brother's nunchucks and nightstick.

I watched so many that I have no idea, though I do remember renting Robocop 2 for my 11th or 12th birthday and watching it with about 6 or 7 of my friends. The horrific violence was incredible. I also remember watching The Terminator and Robocop at a sleep over in a friend's house when we were about 9 or 10. I think that's when the violent nightmares became a consistent presence in my life.

parents never agreed with censorship so i was allowed watch anything i wanted really, back fired as now im a wimpy git, tried to watch sean of the dead a little while ago and had to turn it off as it was scaring the hell outta me, sucks.

Never understood those age restrictions anyway.

yeah it's bullshit - all part of the victorian narrative that children are developmentally vulnerable to being made into bad people by watching fantasy violence,
as opposed to dealing seriously with the economic and social conditions that really make children into bad people by subjecting them to real, actual violence.

RLY?? Jesus, well, didn't know that.

In that case it the Halloween III. Or Terminator. Regardless, I was 4 or 5 or 6.
Never understood those age restrictions anyway.

Halloween III is 15's too

first 18's movie that i can remember was 'An American Werewolf in London'. the dream sequences still freak me out.

Terminator or The Fly are the earliest ones that I remember, though I was a bit too young to have a notion what was going on in Terminator, all I remember is a big scary man with a gun. Didn't watch it again till I was in my early 20s and it's one of my favourite films ever now.. I'm just a sucker for synths and silly accents and Michael Biehn in the nip.
With The Fly we just fast forwarded through all the talky bits and watched the gory bits and were suitably horrified. I was mad into gore as a child though.. really interested in torture methods and suchlike, I used to read those really graphic Amnesty International ads like it was going out of fashion. My parents didn't get a TV till well after I left home so as a kid I had a bit too much time on my hands I think.

I was using two VCRs in 1989...

first 18s

Saturday Night Fever - babysitter claims she brought me in. Must have been early 1978. Can't remember it so dubious.

Cinema in New Ross was showing Dirty Harry late night 11pm in the run up to Sudden Impact release back in 1983. We got into that via a mate's brother who was the usher.

VHS
all the nasties were uncertified when I started watching them in 1984. Last House On The Left was the first one of the bunch to be rented.
