X Files (1 Viewer)

Watched Fire last night. Pretty bad episode, IMO. The villain is rubbish and the chemistry between Mulder and the posh bird is non-existent. The episode feels underdeveloped. Also, Mulder’s supposed to have a massively debilitating fear of fire but there’s a scene where he’s trying to put out a fire in a bedroom and five or six people, including Scully, stand there watching him flail about with a blanket and don’t lift a finger to help!

Kumail Nanjiani´s X Files Files podcast is worth checking out if you don´t know about that already, he does a lengthy discussion of each episode of the series with various guests, a few of which are the actual original writers.

Despite the obvious talent and charisma of the two leads, despite that I love sci-fi, and cospiracy theories (without actually believing in them) this show never appealed to me at all. I even gave the films a go in the cinema. Nada. That said there's certainly potential in this upcoming reboot.

I see. More of a Dark Skies man...?

You people have got me rewatching it from the start now. I didn't realise how shitty and cheap it looked at the start. It looks like 90's porn
you sure you didn't start on the Red Shoe Diaries boxset by mistake?

I love the episode Humbug. Every time I watch it I imagine the look on the continuity supervisors face when Duchovny turned up on set after having clearly washed his hair a good two or three times that morning. It's a super low score of 2 'I Want To Believe' points as Mulder's hair looks like a perfect sphere of daffodil seeds, ready to disperse to the wind at the slightest breeze.

In an early scene Mulder goes out for a jog in a curious outfit comprising of a black ribbed hoodie and grey trackpants and I'm convinced that Mulder has pissed on his tracksuit bottoms. I imagine that the continuity supervisor was so preoccupied with the hair that when Mulder slipped off to the bathroom between takes and had a bit of an accident (maybe he was in a bit of hurry to get back for a shot), that it went completely unnoticed.

Scully arrives at the trailer park with a large suitcase and even though there are plenty of opportunities for casual wear she sticks with trouser suits for most of the episode. Her hair looks great though, classic Scully 90's bob with a bit of effort put into the blow drying. I'll give her a 7 for this one. I'll bump this episode up by ten points for Darin Morgan because he's one of the best writers, but there was a lot of opportunity for more pony-tails in this episode I think.

Just watching season 2 closer, Anasazi. Mulder loses the plot, possibly after a few days of #cans and reading about aliens and decks baldy FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner. Meanwhile, a man called The Thinker (think Michael Douglas in Jewel of the Nile with straight hair) gives Mulder a CD-Rom that might contain details of a conspiracy that spans decades.

Scully's hair is on point for the whole episode. 9 I Want To Believe Points. Mulder... what can I say. It reminds me of when I got a bit stressed at Primavera and cut my own hair. It could just be that he's growing it out a bit for season three but he's definitely hit an awkward length. I'll give him 4 points for sticking with it. Extra points for a nice bit of desktop publishing. 17 I Want To Believe Points
