Doesn't the whole thing kind of reek of affiliate marketing? Not pay per click but more of a constant exposure to whatever ads are on the site. Companies paying for traffic(no pun intended) etc

If you actually look at the site:
the only ad on that part of the site is for the competition sponsers, who are obviously sponsering this as a promo...or did you think there was some pretence of an alturistic motive, never known a company to sponsor something to get anything other then promotional capital back. i would presume Spraoi people are well aware of this, and are trying to use it cynically to come by some eventual cash...no harm
