Seriously though, town needs a supervised injection centre that gives out clean needles. Did that one on Merchant’s Quay ever materialise?

I worked in Lower Mount st around 2005 and my office window looked over an alley (the one by Scruffy Murphy's pub). All sorts of shennanigans went on there. By far the most common thing I'd see would be lads pulling up in a car, chasing the dragon, then driving off.

I used to work in the Abbey, every morning in that laneway there would be blood, syringes, wipes, massive shites and occasional addicts there, asleep or banging up. Brutal.

One time we were doing a late-night load-in, and the scene dock leading onto that lane was open. We were lashing in and out of it, and you could see the brightly lit stage from the top of the loading bay. It always looked really cool. Anyway, about 4 in the morning some fella stumbled up the lane and stood at the top of the loading dock looking at all the activity. After about fifteen minutes of being stared out of it by the slightly mystified crew, he said to one of the lads "Any chance of a job?" Our production manager said "Yeah, sure jump in there and I'll give you a start." Yer man didn't miss a beat, he said "Ah I'm only messin, I never done a day's work in me LIFE!" and roared laughing. Still cracks me up when I think of it.
