Mansun Six

incredible album!

im still amazed EMI allowed them to release it as it's pretty fucking bizarre as "rock albums" go

love the "THIS IS SKY NEWS" sample in television

For me:

Melodica Deathship - Doom your Cities, Doom your Towns
Scott Walker - Scott
The Wave Pictures - Instant Coffee Baby
Sacred Animals - Welcome Home EP
BATS - Red in Tooth and Claw
J Dilla - Ruff Draft
Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Forever
McCarthy - The Enraged Will Inheret the Earth
Swell Maps - Jane from Occupied Europe
Scary Eire - The Scary Era
United Bible Studies - The Jonah
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

john coltrane - stellar regions lp - feb. 67 one-day session from pharoah-free quartet. i could listen to jimmy's mode all day long.
mats gustafsson - the vilnius implosion lp - next best thing to pressing your own lugs into mats' inner thigh.
tom johnson - an hour for piano lp - rzewski-performed, d.e.w.i.s.o.t.t.
alvin lucier - music for pure waves, bass drums and acoustic pendulums, from sferics lp. acoustic pendulums being ping-pong balls.
karen stackpole - dielectric records 12". gongs, gongs and bigger gongs. a modern-day christopher tree.
this heat - repeat/health & efficiency 2x12" all thats good about this heat - riffs, loops, industrial gamelan, even a melody or two.
matmos - the west 12" - the only thing i own by these guys. pretty clunky/loopy stuff with a backup cast of good players consigned to a sample bank.
bill ding - and the sound of adventure/trust in god but tie up your camel cds - both albums from pre-slicker john hughes iii. rudimentary, cut n paste analog rhythms with live vibes and shouting.
archers of load - icky mettle lp - years since i spun this, it holds up well as chapel hill indie rock goes. makes me wonder why i never kept an eye on eric bachman post-aol.
lifter puller - fiestas and fiascos lp - lftrpllr:hold steady as...? shrimp boat:sea and cake? genesis:phil collins? the congress:chicken damage?

cannae get enough of Mark McGuire's Living with Yourself. Golden crisp nostalgic-dripping delicious. A whopper of endorphins-addled pleasure ensues.

Just took a listen to Bitch Magnet's Umber. I fucking love this band, every time I go to those three mega albums they just seem to get better and better. Kind of influenced by big black, but then kind of an influence on Shellac, despite not really sounding like either. Must be Sooyoung Parks' tough nerd vocals. Math rock, college rock - call it what you will; like a harder hitting Codeine in places.

Sonna's We sing soft sing loud tonight, from 2000 (!) which sounds like they've bred themselves on the aforementioned Codeine. A bit more brisque in places though never needlessly mathy - more a kind of lively, fluid interplay between the musicians. On Temporary Residence, probably the label's best kept secret.

Future Islands - in Evening Air
The Gothic Archies - The Tragic Treausry
The Replacements - Tim
Black Flag - Damaged
The Beach Boys - Summer Days (And Summer Nights!) & Today!
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Sunshine: Music From The Motion Picture
Germs: (GI)
also Black Fag http://www.myspace.com/blackfag
