What television series are you currently making your way through? (6 Viewers)

Peaky Fucking Blinders. Watched a couple of episodes when it first came out and couldn't warm to it, but it's deadly. Johnny Dogs is my favourite character, he should get his own spin off.
We just started this too..its good alright

watched Tour de France 2019. was great until last few days.
was devastated for Thibaut Pinot when he had to quit. he would have given Egan Bernal
a run for his money (two stages in Alps had to be curtailed due to freak extreme
hailstorms resulting in slush, flooding and a landslide.

when Egan Bernal signed with Sky (aka Ineos) in 2017 i was really disappointed.
Ineos boss dodgy Dave Brailsford said on Saturday any team could have signed
Bernal who debuted in 2018 as 21 year old. not true.
he was given a five year contract worth millions. no one else could offer a deal
like that - especially for a neo pro (five year deals are unheard of)
even in 2017 Bernal looked like he would win the Tour in the next 4 years.

sadly my 30+ year old dream of a Colombian Tour winner was an anti climax in the end.

true Tom Dumoulin wasn't at the Tour but beyond the only younger lads should
be able to stop Bernal with Tadej Pogacar and 19 year old Remco Evenepoel coming
to mind. a lot kids are turn pro younger now and come through quickly.
for a long time i didn't care who won races but 2019 has brought back a bit more
excitement.

also good to see my favourite rider of my own generation David Moncoutie
still works as a pundit for Eurosport in France.
he was such a quite loner as a rider, so i'm amazed he now has a career in the media.

as with other sports every year cycling the sponsors seems to get more ghastly.

also watched in last month :
La Course - women's mountainous one day race held during TdF in Pyrenean
mountainous route. great again - last year was a blockbuster.
Punk Documentaries over last two weekends on Sky Arts.
hurling, Irish Cricket disaster at Lords,
1988 TOTP repeats (30 mins long but take 6 or 7 mins to watch)
and of course the international football tournaments the best of which was
the great Women's World Cup in France.
some documentaries and news.

Actually here is a cycling clip of the final stage of the COLOMBIA TOUR earlier this year.
for years top cyclists including their own European based stars had no chance to do a
stage race in Colombia but things have hugely improved in in last 15 years and
a new race was started last year.
the final stage was on a very steep highway outside Medellin (a city now apparently
in danger of gentrification after a transformation from suffering several thousand
murders annually to becoming a tourist destination).
features:
typically extremely excitable Colombian commentary e.g. - 'SUPERMAN LOPEZ !'
hundreds of thousands of fans.
many fans/fanaticos running along side the riders on the steep wide road.
and inevitably in the chaos two Colombian superstars are knocked off their bikes (@44:47)
in the closing stages two riders at front slow down to track stand speed after
both realizing that if that if the other hombre wins the stage he will also get
(with time bonus) the overall victory ! (circa 46:40 to 48:25)
finally the packed masses get the result they want and the all European lads
left for dead - with more amazing commentary en Espanol including some singing.
best cycling i've seen this year !

Tour Colombia (2.1) stage 6. 17 February 2019. featuring following riders:
Sky: Egan Bernal, Ivan Sosa, Chris Froome (didn't finish race)
Movistar: Nairo 'Nairoman' Quintana, Winner Anacona, Richard Carapaz (Ecuadorian 2019 Giro winner).
Education First: Rigoberto Uran (led race after E.F. won stage opening TTT), Dani Martinez.
Astana: Miguel Angel 'Superman' Lopez.
Quickstep: Julian Alaphilippe, Bob Jungels, Alvaro Hodeg (all three won a stage each)
UAE-Emirates: Fernando Gaviria, Sergio Henao, Juan Sebastian Molano (won stage 3).

the final overall top ten was worthy of a grand tour.

Started rewatching the first season of that on Sunday. Girlfriend hadn't seen it and we're going to the national theatre live thing in the cinema in September so I wanted to introduce her to it

Well I stuck it out and warmed to it, it got a lot more depth as it went on. It just felt a bit vacuous at the start, really enjoying the story now though.

The Venture Brothers.
I missed it the first time around, but it's class.

I mentioned 19 year old cyclist Remco Evenepoel a few posts back and
he has since won the Clasica San Sebastian 2019 on Saturday.
(a major one day race of 227 km).
he was by far the youngest rider in the race being born in 2000 with
no other riders at World Tour level born after 1998 as far as I know.
this was his first start in a one day classic so he had probably
never ridden a race of this distance before.
i didn't expect him to win a race of this standard until 2021, which
would still be extremely young.
the last teenage classics winner was in the early 1920's apparently ?!!

Evenepoel was a footballer until 2017 representing Belgium
at U15 and U16 but after finishing with that he switched to
cycling for summer 2017.
(his father Patrick was a pro from 91-94)
by the time the 18 year old won the U23 World Road title last
September in Innsbruck he had claimed over 40 wins
in 16 odd months and skipping the amateur ranks he went pro
with Quickstep for 2019.

even Egan Bernal wasn't this good as a teen.
Correction about Bernal in previous post:
prior to Sky / Ineos, Bernal was indeed a pro with Gianni Savio's
second division Androni Giocattoli team before Sky/ ineos bought
out his contract after he won 2017 Tour de L'Avenir.

I'm watching the Canadian version of The Amazing Race. I can never get enough of that formula. Also, Forged in Fire - basically Chopped for bladesmiths.

I just finished Dead To Me on Netflix, it was decent. Netflix series often feel like Events too daunting to get into, but the cast make it. Last one I watched there was Santa Clarita Diet s02, I was raging they cancelled it after the third. Who knew Timothy Olyphant was so good?

He's amazing in Deadwood and Justified

Can't imaging Thumped is the demographic for it, but finished Euphoria, it was great.

Nearly 15 years late to the party but I finally checked out "It's always sunny in Philadelphia". I was led to believe it was good. Does it get better?

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Good background wallpaper that you can dip in and out of. I think enjoyment of this will depend on if you think Jerry Seinfeld is still funny or an out of touch smug rich guy. I think he's a little of both. One thing I noticed is that Americans - or American celebrities - rarely say thanks to waiting staff. Or maybe they just cut that out.
