What movie did you watch last night? (6 Viewers)

i knew everything else in above post before BUT didn't know anything about
Abramoff's other activities.
he was jailed for defrauding Native tribes whose casino interests he was
representing, with many other Republicans also convicted.

Blood And Black Lace which is the English title of an Italian film from 1964 and features a soundtrack by Carlo Rustichelli that's mostly orchestral but with some jazz also. The plot follows a series of murders that occur around a haute couture fashion house and the ongoing police investigation to solve the case it's not bad some violence but watchable.

An old movie you've probably never heard of called The Sound Of Music.

Victoria & Abdul. Those victorians were a bit racist, weren't they? Who knew.

Spree (2015) a largely dialogue free film about a young man going on a killing spree. Interesting.
Verotica. Glenn Danzig's film adaptations of his comic books.
It's really really bad.

Lunghi capelli della morte a black and white Italian film from 1964. Lots of creeping around a castle in long white gowns holding candlesticks and more than once down into the crypt. A woman accused of being a witch is burned to death in a public square. The real reason for her murder is much more convoluted but before she dies she lays a curse of pestilence and retribution to come. With soundtrack by Carlo Rustichelli.

Le Cercle Rouge - French crime movie from 1970 or so. Really good. I watched it because I signed up to Mubi.com recently, which is brilliant. 30 films to choose from. One added and one removed each day. Very slanted towards art(y)house stuff ... there are Godard and Bergman films there at the moment but also more mainstream(ish) independent cinema (Blue Valentine and Secretary at the minute). Some mad shit (Miike) and ... yeah .. it's great. Best 9.99 a month I've ever spent.

That's about the third rave review I've heard of MUBI

Might be time to give it a go

Also watched Passengers last night deep space sci-fi with an almost dreamlike quality a relaxed and eh spacious atmosphere or at least I thought so. There's no weird aliens or killer robots which is a good thing. The ship that's set out to colonize another planet is called homestead which reminded me of the Irish food brand but perhaps it alludes to American fronterism a little. Some very established plot devices from the genre are used but it gets away that. Thought this was pretty good even if almost became another type of drama but in a different setting but maybe that's what I liked about it I didn't really give it my full attention towards the end.

I watched The Postcard Killings, featuring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Jansen. I can't remember the last time I've seen such a bad movie. Really, terrible, stupifiying, insultingly bad. The kind of movie that sets up a big reveal, you work it out, then half an hour later they reveal the bleeding obvious. Everyone is terrible in it. Apparently it's based on a well received book, but they made the mistake of letting the novelist act as screenplay writer and the whole thing is an embarrassing mess.

Shite.

SO was shocked to learn that I'd never watched a Paul Verhoeven movie, so we did three in a row (over three nights, I can only handle so much). One line reviews:

  • Robocop - great, but honestly not as good as I was expecting. ED-209 falling down the stairs was a highpoint.
  • Showgirls - ... working hard to regain my Kyle horn after that.
  • Starship Troopers - LOVED IT. class bugs, loved the media propaganda stuff.

two Brian De Palma movies in the last few days

Dressed To Kill from 1980 which I really liked. Nice Hitchcock buzz set in New York

Body Double from mid 70s I think. Absolute shite
