What movie did you watch last night? (16 Viewers)

Once Upon A Time In .. Hollywood. Pretty much concur with Ann Post's spolier-protected assessment. It's easily the most enjoyable Tarantino movie for me since Kill Bill Part 1. It's not amazing but it's pretty low-key and restrained for the most part and this works really well (like Jackie Brown).

It irritated me that the violence (when it comes) is so violent. Unnecessary and just annoying from him at this stage of the game. I understand that it did pretty well at the box office in the US but surely would have done better with a 15 rating as opposed to an 18 (or however it is they rate things over there).

As a film about Hollywood .. it's no Mulholland Drive but it's a satisfying LA-picture nonetheless.

Watched the Canyons, the movie with Lindsay Lohan and James Deen. Total car crash. She looks like she’s about to keel over and die any moment in the film and Deen is an insufferable prick. Yet there was something enjoyable about its musings on grotesque Hollywood and some funny throwback to American Psycho.

Rewatched Inland Empire which is... a fucking masterpiece. I really enjoyed appreciating all the crazy weird effects Lynch uses and Laura Dern is sensational. She’s seriously one of the best actors of her generation and highly underrated. The scene when she’s talking to the strange detective type in that polish high rise are Oscar worthy. Favourite line “she lets on more than she understand...” “but I don’t speak it.”

Inland Empire is hugely underrated, Dern is incredible in it.

Went to once upon a time in hollywood yesterday.

I liked it a lot. we left the cinema and we were still digesting the weirdness of it all about two hours later. Kinda want to re-watch pretty soon tbh - brad pitt drives the show along and in normal tarrantino fare, its kind of unclear if there are any good guys at all. the depiction of the manson family is kinda comedic, the comedic bits are very funny, some lols and some slow burners. want to re-watch because decaprio is sortof playing a character, that character acting awfully and that actor acting really well at different times but because brad took the lead on the first watch i didn't pay as much attention to him or robbie. the trailers to my mind were a bit of bait and switch, i'm nearly sure one scene from the trailers isn't even in the movie. great justaposition of reality (which in fairness is a fake reality anyways and fiction and rewriting of movie folklore - i kinda think hollywood has had its day and the europeans and asians are moving film along now but this is the first hollywood movie i've seen that is aware of that. So much driving, so much feet.

Agree with this.

It really stuck with me and I want to watch it again if only to study Pitt and Dicaprio's performances more closely as they were both fantastic and their chemistry was amazing. Rick's meltdown in the trailer was great - "eight whiskey sours!" - and Cliff was simultaneously likeable, pathetic, sleazy and scary. Pitt was born for the role.

I got really immersed in the world Tarantino has created and I didn't want it to end. The Family scenes were the right balance of comedic and creepy.

I was slightly disappointed with the ending. I knew he was going to divert from real life events but the violence was so over the top and goofy that it dulled the impact for me. From the moment the Family's car pulls up to the moment Cliff calls the dog was brilliantly tense and creepy but then it went a bit stupid.

Confessions of a window cleaner. The confessions films had a bit of a mythic reputation in the pre internet days of the late 80s. I never actually seen one until today. The whole thing is on YouTube. Pretty bad, as expected. Basically a carry on film with more nudity. I like the British 70s feel & there's loads of hot 1970s women.... But apart from that, tiresome.

As always, the books are better

I watched Doomwatch (1972) recorded off the horror channel. Based on some 70's TV show I've never seen. It was okay. Looks decent, it has that grainy British 70's feel. Probably a bit too dark at times) The acting was mostly good (the doctor got a bit shouty & frantic) The story just okay. Soundtrack very good.

Watched I, Frankenstein a bit dark and gothic with lots of action and a supernatural and fantasy theme. I enjoyed it even if the whole thing was very silly and more or less a big scrap between different types of monsters. I should read the original Frankenstein novel I suppose I was reading a little of Percy Shelly's Prometheus Unbound in a book shop recently and thinking it was pretty good.

We saw Once upon a time in hollywood.
Very slow burning. It is a study of characters over time, hence long slow story, but, it could have done with a trimming.
the violence at the end was comical. You know it's coming, but it was so ott it brought giggling. [\spoiler]
