Watched Fall on Netflix the other night. Closest I’ve ever come to having a panic attack while watching a movie. Daft plot and all but very effective, especially if you’re as useless with heights as I am.

Champions. Remake of a Spanish film, Woody Harrelson is an NBA coach that gets done for drink driving and has to coach a differently abled basketball team for community service.
Although very formulaic, actually pretty cool film. Harrelson isn't annoying and the humour is mostly actually funny/amusing, it's good stuff.

Saw 65 (millions years ago) last week. Adam Driver in A Quiet Place with dinosaurs. It's actually very good, because it does pretty much what it says on the tin without any stupid bullshit attached. And a great thing, it's literally just over 90 minutes long, it's the perfect length for something that doesn't try and over-elaborate on shit.

Dragged Across Concrete - that Zahler dude can make these flinty, unforgiving films that are still compelling as fuck.
I wish he hadn't stopped.
Like you watch a heist film like Den Of Thieves (which I like) and you think you're getting some grit, but you're only getting a veneer.
Also helps that Gibson has already squandered any likeability he had and walks around with a real DGAF aura.
Heck of a film.

The Accountant - I mean it's kind of autism porno, but Affleck can really put a film together.
And the relationship with Kendrick is really lovely. She's an A-rated talent.

Love how quiet and tense the climactic shoot out scene with the van is in DaC. You just have the two lads, crouching there, low growling wisecracks to one another, with no music, while shooting the shite out of the bad guys. And the camera barely moves. And they use real squibs. And the bad guys are proper nasty scumbags. And the violence is nasty and brutal without being gratuitous. Glorious crime flick that.

I had somehow never watched Blow-Up before and I went to see it with a friend at a special showing in the cinema, proper full-on style.

I can see why this film is influential. I can understand that it encapsulated a particular era. I can see how it was innovative and boundary-stretching.

nonetheless, I really did not like this movie. I’m still trying to figure out why. I found it clunky and irritating, with weird plotless side-stories and generally awful editing. yes it’s on all the lists as one of the best movies ever. oh well. they’re all wrong.
