I saw Bambi live a few times when I was going through my very brief punk phase. Good energy.

Who else..... Gout, Striknien DC, Jackbeast....a few others I can't remember.

It's a shame Alex is no longer with us so he can get in on this too. A 2020 take on Dr Feelgood would be his thing I'd say.

I was 8 in 1998. Mostly into the Spice Girls and Janet Jackson.
PERIOD PAINS - Spice Girls (Who Do You Think You Are)
1997 Peel Session version.
i believe they were 14 -15 at the time.
you probably know this band already.
another band who annoyed me with a cutesy band photo on their EP.

what were Steve Davis and Ken Doherty up to ?

i know Steve does some DJing and Davis' love of MAGMA, prog,
electronica and rare groove soul etc is well documented.

cheers - i heard UTOPIA STRONG before but had no idea he was involved.

this reminds me to make a point of something i've been thinking for years:
the amount of contemporary music posted on this forum that owes a
huge debt to German 70's electronic artists is really striking.

any 'best new music i've heard recently' thread will have plenty of it.

Krautrock/Kosmische music pretty much changed the rules of the game from the moment it happened.

Yeah ! - 70's TANGERINE DREAM, first two POPOL VUH LP's, COSMIC JOKERS,
CONRAD SCHNITZLER, early KLAUS SCHULZE, KLUSTER, early CLUSTER,
KRAFTWERK etc etc are all AMAZING.
i'm sure i have lots more to discover from that era.
Cluster 71 is my favourite electronic LP ever.

however this stuff is 50 odd years old and sounding like say, TD or
SCHULZE nowadays isn't really experimental at all.

anyway i'm always of the opinion that not much new has happened in the
last 30 years i.e. my own generation.
sampling, turntable-ism, free improved music, atonal music, extreme metal,
techno, punk, rap, DIY culture (tape trading, zines etc) etc etc
were all well established by late 1980's.

so it's often old genres i didn't know about or non western music that
surprises me musically.

but i have stuff i love which will always be in the 'if it ain't broke don't
break it', category.
it might not be original but i love when it's done well.
