I saw Marianne Faithful on something recently. Really bad.
I like as tears go by but that was fucking 45 years ago.

Oh I love her voice now! She sounds like she eats Gauloises for breakfast and gargles with broken glass, but that's what I like about it. She was too girly and warbly in the 60s.

Likewise, Lydia Lunch, whose voice used to sound like nails on a blackboard to me, sounds better the older she gets.
 
Probably cause she spent her junkie years sleeping rough (on a wall) while he spent his in posh hotel rooms.

her autobiography was a good read. if i recall she said her couple of years sleeping rough on walls in bombed out buildings was the happiest time of her life. i also enjoyed the bit where she fell off a mountain. i have mixed feelings about her singing. i bought a live album of hers about 10 years ago on which she sings songs like pirate jenny with only a piano for backing. its quite good, it reminds me of Ediths singing in Allo Allo
