Villagers is the brainchild of Dublin’s Conor J. O'Brien. Having released an EP, (Hollow Kind), vinyl only single “On a Sunlit Stage” toured Ireland, the UK and US, opened for Neil Young, Wild Beasts and Cass McCombs, Villagers are gearing up for their soon to be released debut album Becoming a Jackal (Domino, May 14).

Becoming a Jackal introduces us to Villagers’ vivid narratives, gripping poetry and melodic depth. O’Brien’s clear and distinctive voice weaves a remarkable spell, delivering an album of rare, alarming beauty. From restrained to unleashed, from a whisper to a literal howl, Becoming a Jackal mutates, intrigues and beguiles in equal measure.

Villagers began life as a nameless collection of musical poems. Says O’Brien: “Ultimately, I’ve learned that a song is not an isolated thing. You have to wash the dishes before you write a song. It should never be taken too seriously. It must be treated with joy and humour, regardless of the subject matter.”

Lead single will be available on 7” from Record Store Day (17th April) and via digital download from 26th April. The accompanying, Ferry Gouw, directed video is available to watch here:
