US politics (2 Viewers)

The worst thing about him is the fact that forty something percent of a few hundred million people can look at him and his record and his character and his lying and go “yep, that’s the guy for me”. That’s... not good.
If you or I were the Republican nominee we'd still get a good 40%+ of the votes, they're not choosing him for any specific reason other than he's the one on the ballot. I can see him winning this year, up against Sleepy Diamond Joe, but I can also see him losing by a (relative) landslide. Lest we forget, he won with less votes than the loser got in 2012.

And the GOP will continue to find worse, and >40% of Americans will vote them.

Trump is admittedly a savant when it comes to generalist cuntery, it's unlikely we'll see such a well rounded example again, but they'll find specialists who manage to be more racist, more fascist, more criminal, possibly even more unlikable. They'll find them, and they'll romp through the Primaries. They've seen Sarah Palin, and Trump, they know the formula.

Dinosaurs like Romney and McCain, who are merely right wingers, aren't coming back. It's Joe Exotic and Kid Rock from now on. And they'll get >40%.

While the Dems scuttle about, nervously glancing over at the GOP Primary winner Immortan Joe tearing about the mall in his truck with people strapped to his bumper, thinking "ohhh jeeez guys - he's sure got that populist appeal - let's just play this one safe and keep our fingers crossed".

Ah yeah. The old back wheel skid, serious technical stuff, hard to get that one worked out alright.

My daughter was doing it on her sparkly pink bike with the princess saddle when she was six like, but she wasn't wearing tacticool gear, guns, and desperate to beat the shit out someone with the help of all her buddies, so that probably gives her an unfair advantage.

This didn't go at all the way i expected

M-16: A Bureaucratic Horror Story

It's a pretty crappy gun, by all accounts.

I was under the impression it was a rubbish at the start, but it became quite good and reliable as time went on.

And the reason for the smaller rounds was to do with a change in fighting style. They used to the gun to aim at things, and try to pick them off. Then they moved from that style to just start unloading bullets into the problem area. Doesn't matter where exactly you're aiming, aim it roughly at the problem and lay down fire. That's going to get the attention of the enemy and hopefully stop them. If they fought that way with bigger bullets they'd have to carry more weight.

Kinda. Isn't there a big bit in the Kevin Burns Vietnam documentary all about the M16? Or am I thinking of something else?

With regards to that article I linked to, it generated a bunch of other articles about the AR-16 and M-16, with a lot of good stuff from responsible American gun owners like our man Beau. Hours of reading.

I obviously know nothing about guns. But watch those video's kids, and read that article.

as is common enough, i see tweets decrying people who give out about tom morello's political stance, but i don't see those actual tweets of people who give out about it. i'm obviously following the wrong people.

I'm not sure. I had the pleasure of listening to a rake of gun people shite on about them though.

From an engineering perspective they are interesting. A lot of thinking has gone into them, and there's very elegant design there.

The 2nd Amendment can fuck off. They love banging on about some rules that a gang of slave owners wrote down in the 1700s like it was drafted by God's top lawyers. There's virtually no reason for some dickhead in an apartment in Brooklyn to own a gun. If you're a farmer, or if you're out in the sticks, and you can demonstrate that you are able to, and actually do, shoot deer: excellent. You get a gun providing you're not an angry cunt.

Most of these lads do nothing of the sort. They buy guns because they like them. They love "the Hobby". Some people are into model trains, some people are into guns. The thing is their hobby results in the deaths of loads of people.

So you've got : pout : "but I liiiiiiike it", vrs loads of fucking dead people.

"but the second amendment... have to be able to battle the tyrannical government". Yeah, no. If you're battling the tyrannical gov, then you will be spied on, have your every move tracked, everything you write on the web logged, and so on. You have lost before you started. Guns don't do much vrs a predator drone 2ks away. If the US gov is after you, you're fucked. Pretending you can battle your way out with your shiny black gun collection is imaginary land.

But self protection.

Nah, you're not sitting on your couch with your loaded gun in your lap. People don't come bursting in your door and then give you a few mins while you get tooled up.
People don't come bursting in to your place full stop unless you're Pablo Escobar or some shit. Now you're off in imaginary land.

The problem is there's so many guns here. There's a dedicated gun shop closer to my apartment than the booze shop, or a newsagents. And guess what? It regularly gets ram raided, and there's loads of cunts shot. Same as drugs, it's probably impossible to regulate them now.

So you're left with the same conclusion that Bo had more or less. Push the message that if you wave a gun around to look cool, you're a frightened spineless cunt. Guns are for pussies that are too scared to fight properly.

And that shouldn't be a hard sell, because it's intuitively true. I was walking home one night in Midtown Manhattan, some lad got a bit sweary with another lad, and the next thing the lads start throwing shapes and looking tough. Immediately one kid roared "get the gun" (not the gat, which I felt was disappointing), and another kid reached into a street planter and started rummaging about in there. So I turned left, and fucked off down the other block. But my initial reaction was: you absolutely fucking pussy, get the gun? Because someone got a bit sweary? Just punch the cunt, if you need to.

But sure enough someone got shot and died I think? It was a tiny paragraph in the newspaper that my former boss read, and they noticed it would have been the time and place I walked home.

And that's it. Pointless bullshit from frightened pussies. BUT SECOND AMENNNNNDMENT!

Fuck off.

I've seen it pointed out that if people tried to use their second amendment right and take their small arms against the government they'd have to deal with:

a) Their water being cut off. Oh shit, didn't think of that.
b) They're waving their small arms in the air as an unmanned drone drops bombs on them.
c) Hey, in worst case scenario America could probably survive an entire city being nuked.

You'd have to literally have the entire army on your side.
