US politics (5 Viewers)

There's an argument for just letting the president be elected by social media or keep Trump in for life while actually get involved in the real politics outside of that. The President has fairly limited powers, especially for domestic stuff, and people get too invested in it as their own personal SUPER KING so you could just make the role the celebrity figurehead it's already treated as.

As many have pointed out, Trump tweets bullshit or ends trade deals that only hurt america internationally (a little bit) and everyone laughs or cries or gets outraged or whatever but his cabinet have quietly been achieving HUGE amounts domestically without giving a damn about Obama style 'reaching across the divide'.

He's getting a second supreme court pick and that could end up shaping American life for decades.

Yes, like his previous nominee was 49 years old. For a life appointment, this could be 30 or 40 years.

Republicans are probably looking at what extreme conservative college graduates could get the job so they could have a 60 year term.

Marriage equality was a supreme cort ruling (it was legal in 36 states), abortion is another issue the supreme court has decided so roe v wade could be overturned too.

It is concerning

To the modern Republican this is extreme left radical communism

Need a new word for how republicans see it as to them, Obama was an extreme left radical communist when he was more centre right then any thing else.

Obama picked two, Bush picked two, we'll see if Trump gets any more. It's not Trump's fault Obama didn't choose people further to the left.

I'm not actually saying the argument is sound but its worth thinking about, I'm fairly sure I was guilty in 2008 of hoping Obama alone could fix America.

It's not Obama's fault either.

He replaced 2 left of centre justices with 2 left of centre justices and should have had a third pick when he tried to replace the very conservative Antonin Scalia with a moderate guy the republicans decided that it was too close to the election for the sitting president to appoint someone and refused to hold confirmation hearings.

This should be Trump's first pick.

You also have two more supreme court judges in their 80s or nearly 80 (Ruth bader ginsburg at 85 and Stephen brewer at 80), both of which were Clinton appointments.

If both were to retire or pass away during trump's term.

Trump would have four nominees
George w bush two nominees and barrack Obama 2 nominees on it and George h bush 1 nominee.

Democrats need to take back control of the senate and the seats up in November are difficult for the democrats.

Yeah and if the Democrats had had a majority on the Senate Committee then that wouldn't have been an issue.

This should be Trump's first pick.
LOL no, only Democrats care about being fair, Republicans don't give a fuck, they're out to win. Lesson learned you'd hope.

A comment from an American acquaintance re the Capital Gazette shootings
" I’m trying to hold my principle of waiting for the facts but it’s real difficult. Just as the fact that the shooter is in custody and not a red stain on a wall leads me to a premature conclusion as to said shooter’s race and gender. "

She's looks and sounds well
