I'd question your definition of sport before i'd question if boxing is a sport or not, because sport has a pretty simple definition and boxing fits it 100%.

I'm making this counter point on the basis of someone who likes words and thier meanings rather than in defense of boxing.

I used to hate boxing myself, but at a certain point realised what you have is a species that took one of its most brutal forms of physical expression and civilised it, turning it into a game we can watch - if you took out the ref it would be a fight to a coma btw so the that's probably a good part. It's probably not as cut and dried as running or whatever but it is one the finest examples of humans turning from animals to a civiled animals.

Can't stand watching boxing or any blood sports.
It can be an amazingly skilled fight but I just can't stand watching men pulverise each other. It's definitely a sport though.
