PPI (Phonographic Performance Ireland Limited) which represents record companies big and small in Ireland reveal the Top 30 most played international and Irish songs as they meet today for their annual AGM.

Compiled by PPI from 37 national and local stations, the list throws up a number of surprises.

Out of the 2.6 million airplays on Irish Radio in 2011, the most played song in Ireland was Jessie J 'Price Tag' followed on by a close second with Maroon 5 'Moves like Jagger'. The third most played song will come as no surprise with Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep' pipping J Lo/ Pitbull 'On the Floor' in fourth position. Bruno Mars takes both fifth and sixth position with his two smash hits 'Lazy Song' and Grenade'.

There were 3 Irish artists hitting the top 30 most played chart, The Script coming in at #7 'If Ever You Come Back', followed by Royseven with 'We Should be Lovers' at # 11 and Voice of Ireland coach Bressie in at #21 'Can't Stay Young Forever' .

'Its very gratifying to see how well Irish artists have performed in the chart against such stiff international competition' Dick Doyle CEO PPI (Ltd)

It's been a good year on Irish radio for Grammy Award winning singer Bruno Mars, with 4 separate singles making it into the most played tracks on radio (The Lazy Song #4 , Grenade # 6, Marry You # 17 and Just the Way You Are #28 ). Rhianna and Adele follow up with 3 singles apiece, with Katie Perry and Lady Gaga snapping at their heels with two singles each.

Yep, that list seems about right, great the see The Script, Bressie and Royseven flying the flag for Ireland........

Saw this list earlier. I'd never heard the Jessie J tune, Christ it was shit, not even a memorable hook. Got half way through the Maroon 5 tune and just gave up.
Anyway, this one is doing my head in, if I hear it one more time.... back in my day etc.

Was at my sister-in-laws around christmas last year and that Maroon 5 song came on the radio. The song was turned up and everyone (kids included) was bopping along. Whats this? says I. No answer. Who sings this song? I say again. They thought I was being all cool and stuff, pretending not to know the song.

I don't recognise most of the songs, although I know the performers. The only one I like is Aloe Black.

€2.40 approx per 2fm/Today etc play. €8 RTE1 ..less for the local stations.

Suffice to say,Rihanna is making a decent living from Irish radio play alone.

Makes me wanna fucking puke.If more local music got played, more people would hear it and local acts could become national and make a living too.Instead all the money flows straight into corporate coffers.

Now,admittedly, most Irish music isnt fit for consumption. But given the unbelieveably large amounts of acts plying their trade currently,if even 10% of extant acts produce music that people would want to listen too,(normal boring people I'm talking about, not the likes of the indie bedwetting doom metal specialist obscuriphiles that inhabit these boards),and there is surely at least 10% doing so,and probably a lot more and if they were played on the radio with any kind of enthusiastic frequency, the irish music scene would quickly explode nationally and internationally.
Due to the simple facts that a.we write catchy lyrical and often extremely rocking songs in this country. b.they're in English c.we're mostly white, which while being a hindrance in the crucial teenage girl looking to piss off their parents with gansta rap tunes demographic, would be a major boon in many markets.Ok that last one might be a stretch.

Instead the major broadcasters are in the pocket of the 3 majors and this scenario is unlikely to change.

Meanwhile, some days I have to fashion sandwichs out of cardboard and moss. And cardboard is becoming increasingly diffilcult to obtain on its own.

And who the fuck is this Bressie fella?

I heard his song on the radio.Absolute fucking TRASH.

Everyone knows I like some fucking shite..but this lad hasnt a fucking note.Abysmal.

The chicks love him though. He's a hornbag.Cant compete with that.

I know a bird went to see him in a school hall in Thurles recently..apparently place was fucking JAMMED with middle age approaching auld wans looking for Bressie mickey money.Paying punters they were. The music had fuck all to do with it.Same auld wans who'd be up front at the Chippendales I reckon.Slappers.
