Earthquake hits off Japan's coast

A powerful earthquake has struck off the eastern coast of Japan, with officials warning that some regions could be hit by a small tsunami.
Japan's Meteorological Agency measured the 6.6-magnitude quake just before noon off Fukushima prefecture.
The agency issued a tsunami warning for Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures.

We're up on the 25th floor, so the building was swaying quite a bit. 2.0 enjoyed it, mrs. pete not so much.

spent most of the day in akihabara. nuts. absolute nuts.

I decided to buy a small battery powered fan for junior. picked one up from the table outside what looked like a normal shop, and brought it inside to make payment.

I spotted the knuckledusters first. Then the handcuffs, the knives, the batons & the shuriken. Which were right next to the stun guns. Which were directly across from the exremely dodgy looking porn dvds. Which were beside an assortment of latex... items.

Classy.

sounds like a good party .|..|

Well I'm still not used to the baby fascination thing - if someone told me about it I wouldn't believe it. Tonight, a random lady beside us on the train gave us a little toy for her, which was sweet. But it turns out that Japan has an incredibly low birth rate - it's been in decline for years, so it's not just foreign babby novelty. An unexpected side effect is that it's proving difficult to find anywhere that sells nappies.

I was able to buy a Baby Cry Interpreting machine ("Approved by the Spanish Midwives Association" says the box), again on sale outside a rather unusual shop. This time it was a place that stocked an assortment of uniforms (maids, air hostesses, schoolgirl, superhero...) and assorted fetish gear & sex toys. Just the type of place you expect to find baby interpreting machine, I suppose.

nez and adebisi shank are there at the moment. if you get stuck for baby things you could get nez to ask the lite lads as a few of them have kids. studio ghibli is a must. enjoy.

got a Detroit Metal City DVD for mr old

Woo! I was reading it on the plane today. Johannes Krauzer II was sitting on an old man with an orange in his mouth. The wee girl beside me must have mistaken me for a weirdo perv.

are you typing all this stuff on your ipod touch or is there an internet terminal in the hotel?

Are you using a sling to carry the nipper about?

brought the laptop. this 100mb fibre internet is only MAD.

it's too hot for the sling. sticking with the pram, which sort of sucks when trying to navigate Shinjuku train station.

there's a bit of DMC gear available - what are you after? action figures (Y1,680 each)? scarves? tshirts? which of the bukes do you want?

Ah deadly. Episode 2 and 3 of the manga would be deadly thanks! And maybe a red t shirt with the evil black face if you've room. Not a biggie though. Thanks Pete!

The missus says you should try inari sushi. Any convenience store would have em for around 100 yen. Little satchels of sweetened gingery tofu with rice inside.

Tried any of these? http://www.vegietokyo.com/info4vegie/restaurant/

So do people keep shouting 'kawaii' at the babby?

i think episode 4 is out soon? http://www.toho-a-park.com/dvd/item/html/TDV/TDV18225D.html is the DVD

i don't trust sushi at all. we found a place in Roppongi Hills that did veggie burgers tonight, so that ruled.

Harajuku was a bit of a letdown today. so many people though... and the heat.

nobody's shouting at her, just lots of oohing and aahing and pointing and laughing (in a good way)

tomorrow's our last full day here. any suggestions?

The Emerging Science and Technology Museum is deadly.
The Studio Ghibli Museum is around 30 mins from Shinjuku by train but you probably need tickets first. Fun though. Tickets are sold in Lawson convenience stores. There's an explanation via the site above but best would be just finding a shopworker who speaks English and begging them to do it.

I was just being greedy. Just Ep2 of the manga would be deadly. Thanks! Any DVD at 666 yen has got to be a winner. Heheh.

Inari Sushi has nowt in it but rice and flavourings. Grand!
Kawaii means cute and since they say it all the time about most things over there, I thought it might be repeatedly cooed at the wee wan.
