I've got a slight hint of Tinnitus, I only noticed it recently and the fact that I can't enjoy a perfect silence is starting to worry me. I've never had my ears syringed before, does anyone know it this helps? Or if you stop using your walkman for a couple of weeks, can it lower the level of tinnitus? I heard from someone that it does. Anyone got some experience? :(

Ah, the oul' wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - i've had it for 2 years now, loverly. Depending on the causes, syringing can lessen it definitely, in fact it may remove it if impacted wax is the cause. If noise damage is the cause then you're probably going to be in my shoes and have to stop using in-ear headhones and get some earplugs for gigs or band practice or whatever. Diet can have some affect too - fatty foods and any stimulants are bad. To put it simply there's no sure-fire cure.

fancy goods had his gabber induced tinnitus cleared up by accupuncture
it did nothing for his homosexuality though

If you only have a hint and you have only recently noticed it, then act now! It's likely you can combat or at least lesten the effects at this early stage, and you totally don't want it to get worse!

Thanks guys. I'm gonna ACT NOW, and get this shit sorted, ears syringed, ear plugs for practice, gigs, night clubs. Might try acupuncture too.

Bunny, this is actually true. I had mild tinnitus (but enough to be very very annoying) when I was 16 through 18yrs old. Went a few Gps. They ALL told me that it was un-treatable (or at least incurable). I got them syringed ,also, which had little effect.
I went to an acupuncturist in Malahide and he said he often succsesfully treats tinnitus. I went for it and after 6 or 7 sessions it was completley gone.
Hasn't come back. I speak the truth.

What you want to do is listen to a signal of the same frequency and amplitude in antiphase and that'll cancel it out like.

pete townshend did this i think.

re: earplugs
does anyone know if it's possible to use them too much? i use them all the time cos i'm a really light sleeper, and it's occurring to me that maybe my recent balance/nausea problems could be linked to that. it sometimes hurts when i put them in...anyone know anything about this?

I have to get my ears syringed every 8 months or so (apparently I have narrow ear canals).
I got this stuff http://www.audiclean.co.uk/ and it is pretty good. It stops the build up of wax so you don't have to go to the doctors so often (at €40 a go!).
Turning the volume down on your walkman helps too, I am told. If you get a weird, disorienting feeling in your head as your brain adjusts when you switch your walkman off in mid-song, then you are listening to it too loud.

I eat lots of fatty foods, never notice any effect - it's never junk food though.
re: stimulants - Red Bull plus booze is an absolute killer on my tinnitus, goes from something I notice when it's quiet to an all-encompassing thing, I also get a mad metronomic ticking in my head
