I was listening to BBC4 Shipping Forecast (I listened to it since before I lived where I live now, before I moved over here even)

And the announcer did the usual script of something like "We will now switch to World News from the BBC"

But then, after he says the things he says every night, he says "Oíche mhaith".
Then gstk played, and then it switched to headlines and World Service.

It's far too late at night to throw that at me. Why did this happen?!

i would imagine that's 99% of it. i think it's only a couple of fatal accidents, rather than a couple of fatalities. found reference to an accident where five people died.
