The Uninhabitable Ireland (2 Viewers)

The concept of replacing all our energy usage with renewables shouldn't be had without a intertwined concept of using a lot less energy. I don't mean like jesus christ thumped unplug the toaster when you are not using it, more like stop allowing people to build mini-mansions in ribbon patterns all over the sticks 16km from everything on a half acre of uselessness.

Fuck it. Let's just agree it was good while it lasted an let's make the most of what's left

sigh

But this, notes the think-tank Shift Project, couldn’t be further from the truth.

According to its findings, digital technologies now emit 4 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than civil aviation. Glaringly, they add, this share could double from now to 2025 because the energy consumption required for digital technologies is increasing 9 per cent a year.

How much CO2 do pointless think tanks consume?

Irish people are the third biggest users of air transport in the European Union.

New figures from Eurostat show that 43 per cent of us fly when we travel, putting us behind Malta on 63 and Cyprus on 49 per cent.

.....the figures show that four out of every five journeys in Ireland are made by car.

are we the third smallest island nation in Europe as well?

yup.

We should just all stay at home all the same.

looking at the numbers that release is based on there isn't a distinction of origin - like a lot of transatlantic connections happen here from other feeder airports.

Also looking at the numbers closely that release a bit cooked.

as the Green's keep saying, we're forever being told about the cost of action, never the cost of inaction.

This MERCOSUR thing thats being floated around (that the last EU admin tried to rush through just before they cleaned their desks) is probably the trade deal on which we finally killed the place off

essentially

brazillian beef intense farmed on land that used to be rainforest

in exchange for

european cars sold to unregulated brazil where you can probably drive a tank that runs on crude oil

we don't even need the yanks to help us wreck the place any more
