Working from home not an option in any way, shape or form?

While I'm not pete's boss, I actually think HR should be dealing with a LOT of this.

Like carpooling, that is totally for HR to plan and for employees to opt in/out
Decent food with clean packaging at work - HR problem.
Cycling facilities at work - HR.
Off peak commuting - HR.

Working from home is not necessarily all it's cracked up to be.
I love it. I would be happy if I never saw the office or my colleagues ever again. I have to go to the office soon though because I forgot to change the delivery address on ebay

I work 100% from home. Communication can be difficult, and it's a kinda lonely - Mrs. egg_ works at home too, but I really miss in-person interaction with my workmates. I'm out in the countryside, so it's not easy to find/socialise with like-minded people outside of work

Still though - no commute. It's a very big upside

If you’re not prepared to go vegetarian you deserve the climate hellscape.

agreed. And companies will suit themselves by insisting people work from home when we have snow or hurricanes, or if the bread runs out.

Personally I hate working from home but I appreciate having the option to do so. The novelty of working from home tends to expire by about 10am in the morning when the time you would have spent commuting has passed, and cabin fever starts to kick in.

Another obvious win here is, even if companies gave people the option to work 2/3 days a week from home, I could see a lot of people uprooting and moving out of Dublin. I worked with a guy who lived in Galway and who commuted to Dublin 1 or 2 days a week. That shit is fairly manageable I would have thought.

I mostly work from home, the nature of my job requires at least a couple of hours driving maybe 3 days a week but I don't have an off-property office.

My office however is a building that isn't part of my house which helps to demarcate work from home. Psychologically I think working in what's also my living space would make it hard to switch off. The only bad thing is that customers know I work from home so think it's cool to drop come around out of hours. Had a guy arrive at 19:30 last week (oddly enough him arriving at half 7 is better than him arriving at half 6 because that extra hour gives me a chance to do some stuff at home whereas half 6 means I'm basically just waiting for him to show up and not doing much)

Uugggh. I'm in between two minds on working from home from a personal perspective. My ideal would be 3 days in office, 2 days from home. I'm hoping to float that when I've been here a bit longer. I'm pretty lucky, we have a shuttle bus that goes from Heuston to our office, which I think is a great option for companies to offer if they can (logistics are of course hard there, ours works because so many people moved to kilmainham when our offices were based here, hence the shuttle on this route only).

What about working at home though, is nixxing a commute net beneficial once you have to heat a place for the day? Like in comparison to driving i'd say maybe not, but in comparison to getting a bus / bike to a place that contains many people is heated?

the trade off isn't going to be massive either way, unless its like, 100,000 people. Like when you are on the dole and the housemates hate you for using the heating during the day...

Very true, unless like me you've never lost your student mentality and never turn on the heating during the day, in favour of layers upon layers of jumpers.

I'm freezing right now and you've guilted me into not turning on the heat.
