The Queen (1 Viewer)

I disagree with that, obviously, but as you say there's no point arguing about it. At least we put our views across without invective.

Now to try and persuade the Guards not to defend the Queen, and see what happens...

if the guards dont defend the physical safety of a person we are in a very bad place. Are you suggesting that a person should come here and because a certain political ideal doesnt agree with them being physically protected, then its the right thing not to protect them??

I think he's suggesting that enough Socialist Worker ranting (beginner's level) will stop the Queen from having tea here. Or something.

we should give her a bus pass and let her find her own way arounnd

I remember the king of China was here a few years ago. No one likes him, and I had to wait at traffic lights at Harolds Cross one day while his cortege of gardai drove by. It added about 3 minutes onto my journey home. I wasn't best pleased but I got over it.

We needed to keep the king of China safe so he could go back to China and tell everyone there to start spending their money on stuff we sell. Probably the same for the queen. If she wants to come on her holidays here, so be it. Shes an EU citizen and has the same freedom of movement as the rest of us. Once she has her ID to get on the ryanair flight over and valid credentials to get past passport control in Dublin airport, then grand, she deserves to be treated the same as anyone.

well it's not our monarchy is it? It's not our battle to fight. It's the British public who need to cop on about that.

True. I know benefit fraud is a problem in Ireland, but taking £37m from the public's pocket, the Brits are getting duped! And Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh? More like the Duke of Hazard. Hoping he puts his foot in it and says something memorable.

They may get £37 million a year but not counting whatever tourism revenue they may generate thanks to suckers wanting to see the castles and the like they generate £200m a year which goes to the state.

There might be a legitimate argument to be made if one wanted to do so for stripping them of their status and the lands that do generate the money for the state, but that's a seperate argument (and as I'm not a British citizen it's not really any of my business beyond thinking that any country which persists with a monarchy is a bit silly), as things stand they make Britain money.

Yes. Because it's a well known fact that people never visit castles in Ireland because we don't possess a monarchy.

As I said in my post the 200 million figure I quoted does not account for tourism revenue, even if you were of the opinion that they are of no tourism benefit to the UK they still pay for themselves 5 times over.
