I wanted to go to Despacio in London in August. Boat+train costs EUR120-odd, and I'd need to stay 2 nights. Flight costs EUR40 and I'd only need to stay one (so half the accommodation cost)

(sighs)

I guess I won't be going so. How the fuck are flights so cheap compared to ground transport?

I was looking into getting the coach/boat or drive/boat across last year, ended up just flying. Crazy price.

At least part of it is because they don't pay tax on fuel.

Egg - out of interest - you not going to go on principle? i.e. not wanting to fly ....

How is it costing €120?
I've regularly done it in both directions for roundabout €45 each way, to various parts of the UK, so 90 total.
I've just checked with trainline, and I could go tonight from Leeds -where I am - to Dublin for £45. Which is why I often end up getting the boat because you don't need ot know what you're doing ages in advance to get a cheap -ish fare
