Just over a week ago came rumors that streaming giant Netflix had picked up the worldwide rights to the third film under the J.J. Abrams-produced “Cloverfield” banner.

It was thought the company would use this year’s Superbowl broadcast to post the first trailer announcing a launch date for the film probably around the April 20th date that had been previously announced.

Nope. Instead they’ve gone and done something unprecedented – the film will be made available on the service immediately after today’s game. This is a significant move – a $40 million sci-fi film whose only publicity material is this short announcement trailer below about an hour before its release.

Previously titled “God Particle,” the film is now going by the name “The Cloverfield Paradox”. Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo and Zhang Ziyi co-star in the film set on a space station in low Earth orbit when a scientific experiment involving a particle accelerator makes the Earth vanish. When a space shuttle appears, the crew must fight for survival following a horrible discovery.

well, this was.... good, i guess, but

quite obviously a COMPLETELY UNRELATED MOVIE with a few Cloverfield-y scenes shot separately and bolted on after the fact.

Well, we found the worms
