Surprised more people don't hate Steely Dan tbh. They are an acquired taste. I think there's a certain strand of 90s post-rock that is indebted to them and that just clicked when I heard Aja. Some albums are better than others. Ah, opinions.

Americans just don't get them though. I was like, "wow, these lyrics are out there." Americans were like, "naw, its just so cheesy."

Eh?

Conclusion: Americans haven't a clue about Steely Dan.

If you don't like Steely Dan, you might like NRBQ. They are like Steely Dan for Yo La Tengo fans. From the same era. Class.

Lasted about thirty seconds with Fr. John Misty. Awful voice. Terrible dross.

That guy in work made me a playlist i listened to yesterday. I kind of get them now. It's still not for me, smug white-boy jazz-rock enamoured with its own entitlement to platinum records, but at least I get it.
