We have 2 old latops in work (same model/WIN XP pro). We need to get files off one but the keyboard is knackered so we can't log in. (ctrl+alt+del doesn't work).

Would it be possible to take the hard-drive from one and put it in the other? or is there some windows nonsense that will prevent this working?

thanks

This should be fine.
As I understand it, there should be nothing created by MS to prevent you doing this.

edit try to make the effort to ground yourself out when you are messing about with computer insides. I have seen someone fry a chip with static. (Girl with lots of hair + big fluffy jumper.)

nice one. what is the best way to ground yourself?

emm.
If you can touch something big and metal just before you touch the mother board you should be ok.
Or just touch anything earthed, and take off your Millwall strip.
