the selling point IMO has always been "the interface and accessibility is worth a few quid a month so that you're saved from the effort of stealing it"
Exactly,, I have tried Deezer and Tidal and they do not come close. Spotify's interface, choice of music and podcasts are out of the world.

unless something has gone over my head, comparing Joe Rogan to a ''barbarian Khan from the steppes" is also racist and shows a lack of self awareness.

Rogan is a obviously a fool.
I don't need Spotify - if I want to listen to new music I am happy to do my own research.
A fool with €100 million and the the worlds most popular podcaster. Not bad for a guy who started the show way back in 2009 for the craic!

Not only do Deezer and Tidal's interface and choice of music come close to Spotify, they're practically identical. As for podcasts, if they're any good they're free on RSS feeds.

I'm now considering just shutting down my music streaming services and relying on CDs and vinylS, I might listen a little more attentively and, uh, "mindfully." If I want to try something out it'll be on youtube.

does that mean I have to send you your Kristen Hersh vinyls?

I'd really like that :(

I suppose at this point i'll just buy a new copy, right?
you won't be able to get it in Orange though and you need it in Orange.

I'll get it to you somehow. If I can get something to pack it in I'll post it down. But I'll have to order some new vinyls so I can reuse the vinyls packaging that vinyls comes in.

so yer man Daniel Ek from spotify wanted to buy Arsenal and now spotify is now sponsoring Barca.

as far as the central Asian reference to Rogan goes it was really pointless.
Barbarian is a dodgy term in its own right (Roman racism!).
and I don't know what 4chan is.

I detest Sascha Baron Cohen so that may have something to to with taking offense.

Right, you asked for it, i'm going to go listen to this entire lecture series just to own you

the word Barbarian has racist origins and I don't like terms like that.
I will do some reading and get back to you but a simple explanation why this is considered OK will get a touche from me

Barbarian FC is a fucking Rugby team in the UK ..why does everything have to be racist??

sounds like Harl covers a large of part the world and many different eras.
I am listening to his lecture on you tube about the start of civilisation which is good and accessible.

but why the term Barbarian, which started in ancient Greece, has endured to now isn't clear to me.
I suppose the point is that like Lesbian, Spartan, Romantic, etc the word has evolved.

wiki says a guy called Christopher I Beckwith suggests Barbarian should only be used in ancient Greece context. He's a philologist and linguist who specialises in central Asia.
I looked through this book but it's way beyond my meagre comprehension (no shit nuke!):
Phoronyms, Classifiers, Class Nouns and the Pseudopartitive Constructions
anyway I tried.

the Barbarians played against apartheid era South Africa a few times.

The pricks, I stand corrected so. Speaking of pricks Mehole Martin will not follow Amnesty International in using 'apartheid' in relation to Israel.

Anything that isn't downloadable on an RSS or similar isn't actually a podcast.

Episode 10 in @ann post 's words that don't actually mean what they mean.

If it's just on spotify/similar it's a stream
A guy in work always talks about how he watches podcasts on youtube. I bite my lip every time.
Nice guy though so he gets a pass.
