Anyone got any good retrogradations of ones they listen to? Great for while travelling, or when listening to the latest awful economic news on the radio becomes too much...

The 3 I listen to most are:

The Atheist Experience: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-atheist-experience/id118720919
A weekly call-in show from Austin Texas that takes calls from theist and atheist callers on the subject of atheism. Listened to over a period of time it can be read almost as a primer on critical thinking in general.

Stuff you should know: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/stuff-you-should-know/id278981407
Updated a few times a week - it's essentially a primer for pub smart arses on just about every topic under the sun. 1 topic per 20 something minute podcast. It's made by the howstuffworks.com site. Latest podcasts were about Daylight Saving, Crossbows, Alcatraz, Air Force One. If you can filter out the presenter smugness it's a good one.

This Week in Tech: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/this-week-in-tech-mp3-edition/id73329404
One of the most popular podcasts in the states apparently. A bunch of technology journalists ( a rolling panel of all ages frequently ranging from graduates to 70 year olds) sit around and talk about the weeks tech news in a very informal rambling manner prone to digression. Drinking and swearing are often involved too. US centric, as you would expect.

(yes I know there's a podcast forum on thumped, but it's all very music orientated)

I love the "In our time" podcasts that Melvyn Bragg hosts. Interesting academic discussions about different historical topics. science, mathematics, philosophy, religion, regional history, great events and historical figures

Another vote for In Our Time, sometimes fascinating though my attention span depends on what they're talking about, some of the topics they get into are very arcane (especially the religous & philosophy stuff)..

If you have any interest in space & astronomy these lads are great: http://www.astronomycast.com/

Heard a few of these and it seems like an interesting show: http://www.freakonomics.com/radio/

I also like this guy on occasion, rants on urban planning & modern living, his take on the future of human society, etc: http://kunstlercast.com/

This site too, takes on an urban legend or mystery every week and looks at it in a thorough critical-thinking type of way: http://skeptoid.com/

Cool. Keep 'em coming.

Escape Pod: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/escape-pod/id73329293
A science fiction story podcast. Quality varys wildly. Many are diverting if not particularly brilliant. This one however is awesome. The Things - the story of John Carpenter's The Thing as told from the point of view of the Thing. You'll never see the film in the same way again: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/escape-pod/id73329293#

The Ricky Gervais show - http://itunes.apple.com/ie/podcast/the-ricky-gervais-podcast/id135789411

Of course you know this. Lots of free content here but not really updated anymore.. If only there was an App that edited out Ricky Gervais
