Its never happened to me but id say prolonged use of guitar cable for speakers could result in equipment damage. Id say the diffenece is thickness of cable or quality of the cables, but its just my own opinion.

As has already been said, always use a speaker cable especially for Valve Amps, solidstate/transistor amps don't really matter cause they're robust and can take anything. If you want your amp to last and things like matching impedance from heads to cabs matters at all to you get a spearker cable, it's the same princaple. I have 2.
