This is just mad - was talking to 2 separate people about Sparks after Bauhaus's gig. And now this thread!

Ah heck! I used to love Sparks!

Hmm, that does it - Sparks might just get a peek into my playlist tomorrow - if I get a chance - never really pre-plan sets..

Sparks might even just fly.. muhahahah!!!!!!
:p

O

Bands I don't get. Might try again this week just in case.
I think the main issue with Sparks is people think they're taking the piss most of the time, or being sneery like Zappa, or being Pet Shop Boys oh-so-clever but they're really not doing any of that, they just have a very strange viewpoint on the world. I think their background is bizarre LA wealth so there's something end of civilization going on in their stuff

You know how David Byrne's thing is to write about something very mundane ( a piece of paper, or your government job) and to try and make it profound, their thing is to write about something very mundane is a very literal way with no real commentary aside from drawing attention to the subject in itself:

They can get a bit tiresome at times, even speaking as a fan

i listened to a few early SPARKS albums inspired by Lili M.
the first one i didn't make it through.
also listened to Kimono and Propaganda (which was good - very unique.
unlike anyone else of the era).
also heard some of Big Beat.
Terminal Jive the second Album with Moroder (1980) which sounds very
like DEVO's Freedom of Choice from the same year to me.
No 1 in Heaven is still my favourite then - cool reunion picture with Giorgio above !

by no means a waste of my time but most of this wasn't my bag.
