Songs that you forgot you loved... (3 Viewers)

Non-album acoustic version of Swann Street by 3. I haven't heard this in... 20 years? 25 years?

After recording the Egg Hunt songs in England, Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson considered forming a new band. They played with Geoff Turner and Steve Niles of Gray Matter, but the project never got off the ground and Ian decided to leave. The others carried on and soon added yet another Gray Matter member, Mark Haggerty, and this line-up would become Three.

Meanwhile, Steve had started his own comic book company, Arcane Comix, which he operated out of the apartment that he shared with Geoff on Swann Street in the Dupont Circle area of D.C. It was this street that served as inspiration for the song of the same name and the line "these berries smell like shit" referred to the small fruits that dropped to the sidewalks from the Ginkgo trees on the block.

Three did a few short tours and recorded at Geoff's home studio as well as Inner Ear. Things were looking up for them, but the band self-destructed before their album came out. Three and Happy Go Lickyplayed their last shows together on New Year's Day, 1988.

i also love the album version, but the acoustic one is just that bit nicer.

More a comment on what was available than what format you had. I think the cd came out years after the vinyl too.

Are you a fan of Severin?

Pulling out Mahavishnu albums after @GO's post in the Major Pleasures thread made me think of this shiny prog epic by the late Ian Carr:

...which remembered me of this, from another, less late Ian Carr:

BBC4 are up to 1987 on the old episodes of top of the pops. Forgot what a great voice Carol Decker has. She was on one of those celebrity quiz shows recently & at the end she sang China in your hand live. She nailed it.

i watch the repeats of Top Of The Pops every week too.
mostly for nostalgia purposes - mid eighties was an especially poor time
(pop charts wise) but i was eleven in 1987 and didn't know any better.
usually takes me less than ten minutes to get through each episode 'cause
i fast forward through most of the performances.
WASP were on last night (August 1987).
