I swear to god the old tunes are the best

This has been in my head all day... I was googling a lyric from an old song I remembered that I was listening to over the roar of the car engine this morning, and also remembering a nice little guitar lick, then realised they're from the same song

It's like two separate songs stitched together. I'd have cut the dirge-like first half and just recorded the pop gem of the latter.

A post on facebook reminded me of them this morning.
I was a fan, briefly. I used the sole of my docs and some yellow paint to make a print on my schoolbag. I even made a little painted plaster doc martin boot in art class.

Strangely for me, they didn't have a lasting impression and I quickly forgot about them.

They're a bit shit in retrospect , but still, nostalgia and all that.

I didn't forget, just too lazy to look for "the songs you can't stop playing thread"

James Mercier has a great ear for melody. Some briliant songs.

God, who would have ever thought 2009 would be so long ago?

Was watching top of the pops 1983 on bbc4 ( I was probably watching when it was originally aired as well ) and this came on

Was this covered by some jangly indie band?
I really like the melody but the music doesnt seem to gel and I could hear it as indie jangle.
The "its all too late" line is catching my ear.

I'd forgotten all about this. The non-Roland Orzabal guy did the better tunes

Every now and then I remind myself that there were some great pop hits back in the 80s
