Hello,

I'm a bit rusty with Irish things, having been languishing in London for the past 5 years. Thought we'd come back and play a show in Dublin, just to check that things are still the way we left them.

Does anyone have any opinions about the upstairs venue in Whelans? I was told it was alright, so we booked a show there. Was I lied to, or is it decent? You lot are usually fairly honest.

Cheers,

Daniel

oh, the name of the (new) band is I am not lefthanded - music is at myspace.com/iamnotlefthandedeither if anyone's bothered.

its not the worst. If it gets crowded then its not great though. Theres a kind of archway halfway back that means the view can be very restricted in parts behind it.

But I've been to lots of great gigs there, which means the venue must be ok.

The night I played there the low end on stage and in the room was very overpowering. I don't know if this is a regular occurrence.

nice venue, like a cleaner version of the old boomboomroom. not the best layout, but works. Pretty good sound onstage and in room in general.

The archway and the staircase enclosure are terrible buh

Its like having serious nasal congestion there

Cool, cheers for that - sounds like people who want to get up front and see the show should be alright, and those who like to stand at the back with their arms folded might have shit sound and not be able to see nothing. Pretty ideal really...

yeah, i thought awesome color were, eh awesome in there too. but being in a band that plays loud music i found it a pain in the arse. then again, our amps were probably too big.

Into the front bar, take a left, up the stairs, take a right into the smoking area and there's a door ahead of you that leads into the venue. And yeah, it's just called Upstairs at Whelans.
