Hi,

can this work on phones? i.e. Could I download it to my N95 and use it to send free texts when I'm connected to a wireless network?

Hi,

Not yet! The current implementation is written in Java Standard Edition i.e. Java or PC's. Java enabled phones run a special version of Java called Java Mobile Edition.

We're currently looking into releasing a version for both Symbian phones (such as the N95) and for the iPhone.

JSMS 4.0.6 released!

We've just released JSMS 4.0.6.

This release fixes a problem where Vodafone users could not send messages since Vodafone updated the URLs on their website.

If you log into JSMS and wait a few minutes, it should automatically download the update. If not, go to the "Help" menu and select "Check for Updates..."

When the update is fully downloaded, exit JSMS and start it again. When JSMS starts up, tell it to install the update.

Alternatively, download the release from our website (http://jsmsirl.sf.net)

JSMS 4.0.7 released!

Hello again folks!

I just noticed that the automatic update in JSMS is broken. We host the project on sourceforge.net and they are currently giving their website a much needed overhaul. Unfortunately they broke our update mechanism in the process, so you will need to downlod and install the latest version of JSMS manually from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196351.

Also, the feature to download contacts from the Meteor website was also broken.

I've fixed both these problems in version 4.0.7.

We highly recommend that you update to version 4.0.7 to get all the latest fixes - particularly the automatic update fix.

King regards.

JSMS 4.0.8 released!

Finbarr has been busy adding new features for y'all...

Check out JSMS version 4.0.8...

  • Mac users will now have the toolbar on the top of the screen giving the app a more native feel.
  • Added 'Clear history...' function to the History menu.
  • In the Phone Book you can now delete multiple contacts at once.
  • In the Phone Book you can now remove multiple contacts from a group at once.
  • When sending to a group, you will now not see the 'test' dialog that previously was shown for each recipient.
  • Fixed bug where history function was not functioning correctly when sending to groups.
  • Reverse history.

O2 users will probably notice that JSMS has not been working for them over the last couple of days... This is because of the well needed overhaul O2 have just made to their website...

Well, don't fret - Finbarr has already implemented a fix for this problem!

But before we release the fix, we also want to put the finishing touches to a few new features we've been working on in the background. Please be patient with us - it won't be long - the new release should be available either tonight (Monday) or tomorrow...

JSMS 4.1.4

We have just released JSMS 4.1.4

Keith has put a lot of work into this one and has completely re-written the communication mechanisms used in JSMS, so hopefully it should feel faster and more reliable. However, some operator sites such as O2, are very unreliable these days so if you have a problem sending, check your operator site to see if it is down.

Here's what's new in this release:

- Reimplemented all HTTP communications code to achieve
greater reliability.

- Added parsing of the customer's user name from Vodafone
accounts.

- Fixed import of O2 contacts which have
apostrophes in the contact name.

- GMail import now works better when a contact
has multiple phone numbers.

- Removed Meteor statusbar tooltip as it was
showing garbage.

- Added buttons to some Help dialogs to open
webpages.

- Disabled automatic update for PowerMac users.

Get the new release here.

JSMS 4.1.5 released...

Hey Folks,

We've just released JSMS 4.1.5. This release fixes a few bugs, but it's primary purpose is to add a check for the version of Java that you use to run JSMS.

From now on, you need to use Java 6 or newer to run JSMS. If you see a warning about the version of Java that you are using, DO NOT IGNORE it, as not fixing the issue will mean that the next release of JSMS WILL NOT RUN on your PC.

So why are we doing this? And why make a release with so few features? It's simple: we have ANOTHER update already beta tested and ready for general release. This new update is jam-packed with improvements and new features. But it will NOT RUN unless you are using the correct version of Java. This is not an idle warning! If you are not using the correct version of Java, the upcoming release will simply crash without any warning why! Thus, we're now giving you an opportunity to prepare your system for the upcoming release.

Don't worry, we will be on hand to help address any issues you may encounter with this (or any other) release of JSMS. But your first port of call for help should be to check out the entry regarding Java 5/Java 6 on our blog:
http://jsmsirl.wordpress.com/2009/04/17/jsms-5/

You should also look at our FAQ for assistance:
http://jsmsirl.sourceforge.net/JSMS/FAQ.html

And if after that you still need assistance, then please email us at [email protected] and we will try to reply to you as soon as possible.

The JSMS dudes...

Plus any issues people have experienced runnign through HTTP proxies should also be resolved. Check the "Change Log" from the Help menu for a full list of changes.

Beta version of Jelly SMS now available for Android phones!

Hey folks!

Our beta of Jelly SMS for Android phones has been put through it's paces for a few weeks now, and we're ready to make a time limited release available to the public.

All info and an installer for Android phones is available on the Jelly SMS website.

Happy texting!

Today we released version 4.3.1 of Jelly SMS Desktop. In the last couple of weeks, we've added:

* custom signatures,
* improved startup speeds,
* removal of default "three.ie" signature,
* a cool new DMG installer for Mac users, and
* delivery reports for O2 and my-cool-sms users...

And as always, it's all free...

And today, we made our first release candidate of Jelly SMS for Android handsets. This has been in beta test for over a month now, and based on feedback we now believe that it's stable enough to hit the market.

The app is available in two versions: a feature limited free version:
http://slideme.org/application/jelly-sms-free
and a fully featured pro version:
http://slideme.org/application/jelly-sms

We've had lots of great feedback on the beta releases, but we're not going to rest on our laurels; we have plenty more improvements in store for you in the future releases...

Now, I need sleep... :)

Happy texting!
