Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this sort of kit? I'm looking to setup simple drum loops and ambient loops and thought this yoke would do the job. Seems to be better priced than the MPC500 say and gives alot more flexibility than a more affordable loop-pedal.

cant recommend this enough. even if its a starting point and you find an MPC is more suited to your needs. but for what you describe, this is the guy for the job. and you can get em dirt cheap 2nd hand.

pros.

very simple to use, good little sampler.. nice enough onboard efx (not amazing but fun).. can have up to 1gb compact flash samples.. battery powered.. has lights.. fun to play.. can put a mic in and you can do great panda pear impressions..

cons

no midi out or through, converters are not amazing and it distorts a little if you push volume over half way.. only phono outs too, unless you count headphone out..

sequencer timing pretty ropey.. i never use it for that..

overall, well worth the money..

wouldn't mind trying an sp555 too

I'm selling mine over on Music Gear in the small ads. I loved it for as long as I used it but I got some other bits of kit over the last 12 months and now it doesn't get touched.
Great for what it does but it's limitations are perfectly outlined above.

hey those sp808's are pretty useless because they run from zip disc and it is CONSTANTLY freezing.. it has to read from the zip real time so it's constantly working with a moving disc - no.

i heard you can put a cf card reader in them though which might solve the problem..

if it could actually do what it is supposed to it would be a great piece of kit..

the d beam effect is fun and also the half speed button, mad anticon drum sounds..

google sp808 disc too busy for a laugh

Thanks for the info; you would not believe how dificult it is to get the leads and names when you don't know. I've to do a paper for this for a local journal.

Via Amazon but they'll only deliver to the UK (I got it delivered to a mate's house):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0000WXE2O/?tag=thumpedcom04-21

This crowd in Dublin, but expensivo:

I got this card reader too:

Just bought a couple of 1 gig cards from these people ...

£2.95 delivery charge to Ireland but buying 2 of them still worked out cheaper than buying one from the camera exchange here.
