Running? (5 Viewers)

Doing speed work for a mile race and I hit 5:32 mile pace which I'm pretty happy with

Which is about 3:27 per km

I was in the 3rd fastest group - some of these folks in the faster groups were smoking fast
But I'm a lot closer to 60 than those guys, so doesn't do well to compare

Took the Stena over to Holyhead and ran 26 miles around the coast of Holy Island in Wales for the Cybi Coastal Marathon

Wales is fucking beautiful btw

Some bastard put a mountain at Mile 20 tho

Ran a 5:51 in a mile race last night

Could maybe have gone faster, but still feeling the marathon

It feels very good to run faster than much younger, fitter men. I'll be honest about that.

Entered the lottery for the Tokyo marathon - not a fucking hope of getting in, it will be massively oversubscribed

Cool that they makes so many spots available for those with disabilities tho

Get your entries in, lads

Blind with rage doesn't count

Running is fun

This guy wasn't born in Oz, been there since he was a weeyun, so it's safe to say he's got the culture down

Ran a hilly and quite hot 5k earlier today

Definitely think I can break 20:00 in the right conditions

This is a 5k race PB for me
The closer you get to 20 minutes, the more difficult it is to find those seconds

I definitely came 1st in the over 50 males - cos I know the other two over 40s guys ahead of me :)

Been out there doing the thing, man.
Closing in on a Boston Qualifying time - which is like the gold standard for amateur hacks like me - most recent race I was 58 seconds out. I traveled out to Philadelphia and ran a 3:25:58 there.
So I am getting close

But more than that, I am enjoying the practice. I am enjoying the discipline. Of what all these accumulated hours make me. Running is fun now.
The results will take care of themselves.
The races are just a celebration of my work, a party for my good habits :)
Application went in today for the 2024 Boston Marathon
Which is THE marathon in the world

Fingers crossed - find out in about a week or so if my time is fast enough

Registered for Parkrun. No immediate plans for running in my current regime, but it's there in the background now. 11 years since the marathon.

Fair play

The great thing about ParkRun is you can go out and do it and walk/run/jog whatever you like til you get back into it

Which marathon did you run 11 years ago?

Hang on, you just ran a marathon, survived it, and you’re in Berlin. I think that’s a big win.
I was hanging with the 3:15 pacers til like Mile 19

Thought I could go all the way with them

But I'm 53, and the sun and my hamstrings let me know that
Also, climbed (most of) Mt Etna on Wednesday. And this was not a good idea for someone wanting to run a fast marathon.

I really appreciate the kind comment

Didn't make Boston
I was 3:39 below the qualifying time - you needed to be 5:29
Which sucks, but it is what it is
Last two years it was 0:00 so I was reasonably hopeful

I started running two years ago, and I think there's a big post-Covid surge of runners
So it's pricks like me, ruining it for pricks like me

As the saying goes, I'm not in traffic, I fucking am traffic

I feel genuinely bad for anyone that ran a 2:55 and is being told by the BAA that they are too slow.
