Hipsters must struggle with Collins' presence on Brian Eno and Robert Fripp LPs.

I'm very hip and I have no problem with Phil playing frankly amazing drums on this, probably my favourite Eno song

Well it reminds me of Ruan's old blog. Which was basically my son's stupid record collection, so yes.

Anyone remember me saying that I went on a few dates with someone a few years ago without realising that we were going on dates? Looks a bit like the woman from that blog.

That coulda been YOUR stupid record collection she's reviewing.

This criticism is fair:

but also I don't really agree since i'm happy to listen to anyone who approaches things with a sense of eagerness. I can't be held responsible for everyone else's machoness and lack of inclusiveness. And yeah, it's like Ruan's old blog alright. Which was a great blog.

So basically I just brought up an issue in order to mention how i'm not interested in discussing it.

THANK YOU EVERYONE, HERE ALL WEEK.

I like the idea of the dynamic, regardless of the exact relationsip between the people. Person A presumably loves Person B, but person B has a very idiosyncratic thing that they're really into. Person A isn't really but tries to make sense of it. I'd probably at least look at a blog called "my cousins stupid faberge egg collection" a couple of times.

To be honest I'm more into reading that sort of thing rather than *journo reviews new album* music writing, which I can either read to find out what someone thinks, or I can almost instantly download the album and make my own mind up.

Yeah, it's the main issue with what music journalism has become. Music journalism should be more like that blog. In that it should be entertaining and inventive and interesting.

Who actually does good album reviews these days? I love blogs but by their nature they're not very comprehensive and there's an element of pot luck to them. Even though I've tried not being cynical about Pitchfork etc for years, it (and the others) have really gone to the dogs lately. For movies I just have my go-to journos who are pretty reliable, and even here does good movie criticism. Harder to find with music for some reason though.

Been many years since I've bought an LP based on a review. Always rely on word of mouth/recommendations from pals, or more typically these days hunting down music with tenuous connections to stuff I already like.

That said the Norman records reviews can be good, and @old has had a lot of success with the reviews on the Acquarius records mailing list. Worth diving into:
