Anyone wanna teach me how to take decent photos in daylight? I seem to have forgotten or never knew in the first place.

actually, i had to desaturate that; one thing i've found with the D300 is that in low light situations, the camera tends to oversaturate colours, rather than representing the muted colours which i was seeing. so that is much closer to how the scene looked than what came straight off the camera. it was taken in shade at nearly 10pm.

Sorry the question wasn't relevant to your photo at all. I can deal with low light like that grand. It's sunny days I just don't seem to get right.

i hate midday sun. it's probably the worst light to photograph in. contrasty, harsh, and unflattering.

Did it take a few attempts to get the exposure right? It can't have been easy.

one exposure, the camera has a great spot metering system built in, which helps a lot.
but i did have to do a small amount of work in photoshop to get some detail into the shadows, the scanner is ten years old and showing its age - not good at pulling detail out of the shadows when there's other parts of the frame with lots of light. the pic above is a reasonable fist at what the original slide looks like.

ive found every digital camera I used does odd things to color and requires a bit of subtle post processing, except for the 5d..

midday sun is when you break out the b/w film!
