I think she's kind a hot, must mean I'm not a racialist.

she is a massive ride.
I would describe her music as..... garbage. But I am a Middle Aged white dude so it's not for me anyway

The Football Association of Ireland issued a statement tonight pledging their support for James McLean.
his wife Erin has said they received threats daily for the last 9 years.
this began when the footballer insisted on not wearing a football jersey with a poppy printed on it .

what I want to know is who made the decisions to crank up all this pro military stuff at UK football matches in the years after the Iraq War that led to McLean (who is from Derry) being put in this position.

the FAI shouldn't have commemorated 1916 or repeatedly let the President shake hands with players on the pitch before matches at Lansdowne either - no other country does this.

The poppy stuff was driven by the daily mail about 12-15 years ago.

There's been very little said about the McLean abuse over the years, every now and then it'll be news for a few days and then disappear again as if it's all over. Basically, being racist is bad, but being anti-Irish is fine in England and America, it's just a bit of a laugh or something.
I pointed this out in the movies thread a while back, I saw the new Wonder Woman film before lockdown came back again, and in it there's a bit where an English chip-shop woman shouts at an Irish customer "I wish all you Irish bastards would go back to where you came from!"
Hollywood are okay having that in their film, but if she'd been shouting 'black' or 'Jewish' or probably even 'Mexican' or 'Chinese', there would have been uproar about that and it would have been taken out of the film. It doesn't even happen in any kind of context like establishing a character as evil racist or anything like that, it's literally just thrown in there as a cut-away scene. Actually just thinking about it, it would never have been 'Jewish' because obviously Gal Gadot would have gone mental about that herself, and if they suggested 'Mexican' Pedro Pascal probably would have walked off the film (I am aware he's not Mexican). Kind of just illustrates it even more, anti-Irish is still an easy target where other targets are increasingly unacceptable.

Just as an addition to this, to clarify, I don't really give a fuck about this kind of stuff in films. There is an element of artistic license that should be allowed, the issue is that the faux-liberal 'outrage' that drives a lot of this shit only gives a fuck about certain things that are basically cool to be outraged at at a particular time, and is also completely shallow outrage that is perfectly happy to make window-dressing gestures that don't actually address the systemic roots of these issues at all. Case in point, the current 'take a knee' before sporting fixtures shit, what a load of fucking bollocks. All these footballers still getting paid their millions, much of which comes from completely corrupt sources that is directly damaging to minority communities all around the world but particularly in the Middle-East, but people watching on TV are meant to think "Oh isn't that good, they're supporting anti-racism", and most of the players themselves aren't bothering to ask where their pay cheques are coming from.
For a film example, there's a lot of idiotic people around nowadays that would call John Ford's 'The Searchers' racist against American Indians. It's a classic film and it's not racist, it's largely about a racist and that's an entirely different thing and also entirely justified by actual American history. The 'outrage' lobby is of course totally blind to such nuance, and anyway they'd be too busy giving Black Panther an oscar for its amazing portrayal of a totally feudal divine right monarchy society which is enlightened, because that's such a common thread in history after all. Plus Black Panther is fucking shit and surely one of the worst films to ever win the best film oscar (but hey the oscars are mostly a joke anyway).

In conclusion, I think that Marvel should make the film "Celtic Wolf" about the Irish super-hero who lives in Fomoria, the advanced and secret island-nation located 50 miles off the West coast of Ireland and powered by the rare metal Orichalcum deposited there in a meteor strike thousands of years ago. Celtic Wolf will of course be King of this nation, and any future King will be his first-born son and all the main advisors to him will actually be members of his family, yet somehow at the same time there will be no stratification of the society, because that makes sense some fucking how. it's a sure-fire oscar winner.

I've never seen The Searchers but I can't stand John Wayne. whatever about his politics, I've thought he was a terrible wooden, one dimensional actor since I was 7. I don't like Marvel movies either.

racism against East European folks isn't given much coverage in Ireland and who are rarely featured in the media here.

the anti racism debate in football is often not addressing institutional racism.
at times there's an element of it making class divisions easier to ignore.

there is lot of very dirty money in the hands of football club owners -
the fact the takeover of Newcastle blew up the Saudi's faces was a step in the right direction.
the takeover would have probably happened a few years ago.

but all in all BLM is a massive game changer.
when the riots happened in London in 2011. the media was so full of white middle class folks that it was
at least three days into the riots before 'stop and search' was mentioned in famous live interview with Darcus Howe on BBC.

The crowd next door that are really into properly remembering their history don't seem interested at all in remembering their history properly.

A lot of John Wayne films are class, he is very one dimensional but just give him that same basic part to play over and over again and it works.
