Paranoid Visions' Aoife Destruction is detained by armed police.

Paranoid Visions singer Aoife Destruction sparked a security alert last Monday at Manchester Airport.

Returning home with the band from the Rebellion punk festival in Blackpool, which was headlined by Killing Joke and The Damned, Aoife was pulled over by security staff who deemed her studded belt and knuckle-duster clasp to be an offensive weapon.

“Before we knew it, Aoife was surrounded by armed police and taken away for questioning,” says guitarist P.A. “We would have been scared except we were still numb from the rest of the weekend!”

Luckily, the police recognised that the 5 ft 3”, 7 stone singer wasn’t a serious terrorist threat, that her belt was “a fashion statement rather than an intentional weapon” and released her with a caution.

Meanwhile, the Dublin punk outfit continue to do huge internet business with their Beware Of The God album, which has spawned a top 5 indie download hit in the disturbing shape of ‘Fritzl’s Basement.’

Aoife Destruction.
Very good.

Fuckin' bastard cops in Amsterdam took my weed off me last time I was there, even though it was way less than the allowable amount.
Huh, just cos I was on my way back to the airport, suddenly that makes me a smuggler...

got me bullet belt taken on the way back from scotland before

heard a call out for me to return to the book in desk
where the lady said we found live amunition in your luggage are you carrying a gun (i held back all the smart arsed comments that were running though my head in return to this stupid question)
so security turn up take me to the side
i explain its a just a belt and the bullets are dead
when they produce an x-ray to show me other wise
a good few were still live
they weren't to bad really, let me take off the live rounds and keep the rest
but had to sign a form to say i had live amo confiscated off me

so what does the bullet belt actually symbolize with punks??

my theories are:

1. previously having liked 80's rock, not having bought clothes since.
2. like to offer solidarity and financial support for the industro/military complex thing
3. like shooting
4. americans do it
5. trousers don't fit, bailing twine not viable in punk scene
6. it was on some album
7. hand me downs (if you dad is rambo or rob halford)
8. often meet veterans for pints, like to make them feel awkward.
