I've worn petty much nothing but Converse for the last 10 years, but over the last few months I've started buying Vans.

In down to 6 pairs of Cons and 4 Vans.

Which are better Vans or Cons?

While a life time wearer of Converse, I bought my first pair of Vans last year.
The reason? One morning I got up and thought.."bending to tie shoelaces is such a hassle...there must be an easier way.."

I expect eventually my wardrobe will consist only of slip-on shoes and mumus

I own slip on cons.

I was wearing a knock of pair of converse when I visited Auschwitz in the middle of winter

As I stood freezing in the snow with sore cold feet I thought "No one has ever experienced discomfort like this. Ever."

I wear a pair of these daft things around the house

Slip on , wooly comfort. But still punk.

Well since i've been told to wear insoles to correct a long term dodgy ankle... I blame the cons and vans. The vans are way more comfortable with the insoles in though.
What's my point? It's a cautionary tale.

Vans usually, because they seem to be easier to pick up on the cheap. Vans and Converse have been what I've worn for most of the last 25 years.

They are shit in the winter though.

I was going to start a new thread for songs that are particularly relevant to divisive or controversial issues of the day but fuck new threads, they're old hat now and anyway you can't get any more on-topic in this:

Running Shoes by Roger Waters from his album The Pros & Cons of Hitch Hiking

The lyrics neatly encapsulate why this thread matters

So I stood by the roadside
The soles of my running shoes gripping the tarmac
Like gunmetal magnets
Fixed on the front of her Fassbinder face
Was the kind of a smile
That only a rather dull child could have drawn
While attempting a graveyard in the moonlight
But she was impressed
You could see that she thought I looked fine
And when she turned sweeter
The reason (between you and me) was
She'd just seen my green Lamborghini
